DO YOU HAVE A HORSE OR PONY SUITABLE FOR THE RDA?

WANTED ON LONG TERM LOAN / PURCHASE

Ref #: 249896
  • If you think your equine has what it takes, please contact one of the groups below
  • If you think your equine has what it takes, please contact one of the groups below

One of the main issues that RDA groups face is finding an Equine to suit the needs of the participants in their group.

We are regularly contacted with offers of Equines that are ‘the ideal RDA horse or pony’ when actually what is ideal for one group may not be for the next. We are trying to move away from the stereotypical view that RDA Equines are elderly and somewhat static, our horses and ponies need to be fit, healthy and athletic to cope with the lifestyle in an RDA group.

They can range from smaller, forward going ponies to weight carrying cobs and can take part in a range of disciplines from Riding to Carriage Driving, Vaulting to Show Jumping and Endurance.

If you contact an RDA Group about your Equine please be prepared to fill in an Equine Initial Interest Form which will ask you many questions about your horses’ temperament, health history, experience and lifestyle. Many groups will prefer to have an equine on trial to make sure they are suitable for the job.

For long term loans and purchases they will also be required to have a Pre-Purchase Examination.

If you think your equine has what it takes, please contact one of the groups below.

Super little pony looking for his new best friend and new home

Easy and kind, loves children and is simple to manage and handle - little Tommy has been ridden and used by young children and is very kind and simple to manage.

He is easy for them to brush and groom, very gentle to lead around and he stands quietly when he is tied on the yard. Tommy has done plenty of hacking and has done a couple of our little shows with a novice.

He is a little star!

Pumphill Gabriella - Registered 14yr up to height 12hh Dartmoor .

Related to numerous HOYS and RI winners .

A true kids pony

Gabby is a lovley quality up to height 12hh Dartmoor, she's related to some of the best performance Dartmoors around. Gabby has mainly been used as a lead rein were she just excels herself , there's nothing she won't do wether it's a show class , Showjumping , handy pony , games , gabby turns her hand to literally anything always with a smile on her face and a can do attitude .

She hacks out alone or in company is not spooky and safe in the heaviest of traffic . Gabby can be handled by the smallest of children and is easy to do anything with .

Gabby does go off the lead rein but needs a slightly more confident child when off the lead rein. She goes off your leg and goes lovley on the flat and pops round a course but she is more forward so I would say not FYFR.

Gabby really is the kindest pony you will meet and just loves life , she is looking for a new little jockey to go on adventures with and win lots of rossettes , she's open to any vetting or trial . A good home is a priority for this lovley little pony .

  • Owned for four years
  • 3 pony club mini camps
  • Taught my children to ride
Macey has been with us for four years and in that time she has done 3 pony club mini camps. Lots of lead rein showjumping wins most times out. Qualified for Regionals. Has done many fun rides on and off the lead rein. She doesn’t bolt off when off the lead rein out hacking or fun rides and doesn’t hot up when being over taken by other horses etc, she trot and canters when the child wants to canter and pulls up easily. Brilliant out hacking on or off the lead rein and super in all traffic including heavy farm traffic.

Macey is a brilliant lead rein pony she really is super at her job.

She has competed unassisted open 50 and 60 cms but can be spooky at the fillers etc so needs a competent jockey to ride her off the lead rein show jumping at the bigger heights.

Macey is easy to load and catch she isn’t shod she copes very well barefoot even though the summer and on long fun rides up to 14 miles of trotting and cantering.

She isn’t an idiot and won’t jump out of the stable or trailer if you take a friend away though she will call quite a bit.

Up to date with vaccinations. Loads and loads of videos and photos from four years of owning her. Has been ridden by all my boys

Sadly For sale as my 7 year old boy needs the next stage pony now and need the funds

FYFR first ridden/lead rein pony.

11hh, Reg’d Welsh A, gelding, 14 years old.

Excellent to handle by even the smallest of children, will stand tied up whilst my youngest daughter brushes his hooves!

Happy to be stabled, turns out with a mixed herd, currently lives out 24/7.
Happy to be left alone whilst everyone else goes out!

Doesn’t kick/bite.

Excellent in traffic, never strong or silly, snaffle mouth, definitely (absolutely!) a more woah than go type off the lead rein, loves to plod along, we call him our tortoise pony! Leads perfectly on foot or from another horse, we lead him from our 16.2hh warm blood mare, somehow he manages to keep up!

In a previous home before we bought him he’d been used for pony club rallies/camp, showing etc. We’ve used him for mostly hacking, some local showing and fun rides.
He’s only had 3 previous homes and I know each one, all of them follow his progress and I think that says a lot about him as pony.

We’ve owned Blaze for 2.5 fantastic years, he’s bought our daughter on from a nervous/novice 5 year old who was on the lead rein to a confident, happy rider who’s now ready to progress to a 2nd pony.
He’s the type of pony that doesn’t mess around if his little jockey puts in a kick at the wrong time or has washing line reins, he doesn’t take advantage if they can’t quite get the aids right or if they haven’t yet got full balance in trot and bounce along, the perfect pony to learn on.
My youngest has ridden him on and off since she was 2 years old, a true family pony.

We have absolutely adored our time with him, we thought we’d be able to give him a home for life but sadly my youngest daughter isn’t interested enough and he’s being wasted sat in the field as a lawn mower, I know how hard good ponies are to find, he’s a true gem.

Barefoot, excellent in every way, comes to call.

Does have Cushings but this is managed with .5 of a Prascend tablet a day and a yearly blood test, which was done 3 weeks ago and he’s thriving on his current dose. He doesn’t require any special management for this other than his medication.

Heartbreaking sale of our wonderful little Blaze so please only apply if you can offer him an amazing home.

Based Devon/Cornwall border.

Annie is an out and out star, she is a forward responsive ride, one that you don’t have to endlessly kick to get going but she also is not at all strong and has very good brakes , meaning she is perfect for those children that are wishing to step up and progress in their riding but without overponying them!

Annie has a lovely temperament and is good for the children to handle, including catching, grooming, tacking up, loading etc, she loves to hack and is happy on her own and in company, is fine with any traffic and will pop logs and anything else you my come across whilst out.

Annie has done lots of pony club and all the activities involved, and is very well behaved, she is not quite a true first ridden as she is naturally forward, but more of a 1.5 pony suitable for a child that wants to go out and have fun in all disciplines.

Molly

13h 9yo Cob mare. Very sweet natured and good to handle. Turned out with mares & geldings, good to catch, groom, farrier, load.

Easy going, straightforward ride. Listens to little legs and simple to walk, trot, canter. Snaffle mouth.

Has been a confidence giver to her previous two owners - taken them from nervous riders to taking part in low level comps, Pony Club, clinics etc. Has done lots of hacking, beach rides, fun rides, horsey holidays too.

Jumps cross poles/40cms, this is her comfort level. She doesn’t mind fillers etc, she just doesn’t quite pick her feet up over bigger ones but always gives it a good try!

Wears a nose net in the summer although didn’t in her previous home so may just be the pollen/fields around me that irritate her but she’s better with the net.

Up to date with everything. Shes a lovely pony and her owners want the best home for her!

Lead rein, first or second pony for all allround activities, happy hacking, pony club etc.

Really beautiful pony. He is as kind hearted as he is lovely to look at. He has taken my son to his first competitions - dressage, clear round & show-jumping. Has done cross-country schooling, pony camp, barrel racing, beach ride, hacking. A child's best friend & happy to be groomed & fussed over all day.

Bingo loves jumping & has taken my very nervous, very novice son over jumps. Not fizzy or fast but steadily takes him into a jump while he clings on as a passenger. He is an absolute lamb to handle on the ground & lead & also leads from another horse or pony. Really affectionate & chatty to humans.

No problems loading (lorry or trailer) & fine shoeing & clipping. Calm at competitions & not clingy to his friends or travelling companion.

He can be left for weeks/months & then just ridden. He has had 7 months off over the winter due to no rider & now being lightly ridden by my 65 yr old friend.

Very sad sale after 4 years with us due to my son giving up riding

Phantom is for sale due to my daughter growing out of her. She's hung on to her for as long as possible!

Phantom (or 'Pants' to her friends) is a much loved family friend. She has done all PC activities and 2 camps.

Phantom has competed up to 65cm and has jumped 85cm at home, with my daughter who is self-confessed not the bravest of riders. She happily does water, ditches, steps etc. She knows lateral work and correct bend, and has competed successfully at dressage and Prix Caprilli.

We are not showing people but Pants has placed at every local show she's entered and could probably do pretty well as she's well put-together and very pretty.

I think she would be suitable as a lead rein pony as nothing phases her and she'll run along next to you as you hold the child's leg and do up-downs etc. She might be too active for a nervous child taking their first steps off-lead-rein as she is forward and responsive - but she's never tanked off and always ridden in snaffle and loose cavesson.

Good to hack, load, shoe (currently shod in front), no vices. I've not actually clipped her as I haven't felt the need but I've run clippers over and she isn't bothered at all. Loads herself and travels perfectly. Does have a couple of very small stable sarcoids which you can't see unless you're looking for them, and don't affect her.

She is a friendly little person and whinnies for us in the field.

Ozzie is 12hh mini cob who is the kindest little pony you could meet

He is exceptionally well behaved on the ground, stands to be groomed, clipped, bathed, excellent with farrier, dentist, saddle fitter.

Ozzie is the perfect happy hacker, he takes my daughter on 60mph roads, country lanes, in fields cantering, more whoa than go but nice and responsive off the leg, he would make lead rein or first ridden or can pick it up abit
for a more experienced little rider, he loves life and loves attention and cuddles from little people

We bought Ozzie from the field as a little project for my daughter who is a fab little rider she's really worked hard to get him going to well and he's wanted for nothing in the time we've had him

Not ridden for 8 months she jumped on him bare back and off they went and we've now got him going lovely

He's been wormed, vaccination up to date, farrier, dentist, back check the lot, also had his mite injections to eliminate any leg mites

He is a green in the school but not yet refused anything we've asked and learning more by the day just at a steady pace, he's not a jumper bless him think this is just schooling as we've popped him over afew little x poles

Ozzie can be turned out with mares and geldings, plods around the yard with children, absolutely perfect with dogs. Loves a pub ride! He's a favourite in the village.

Ozzie has been shown in hand by a 10yr and was foot perfect. Coming away with a 2nd place in part bred and 5th place is a massive class for best condition on his first show with lovely comments from judges

Brian (stable name)
Is a 12hh welsh section A with bags of character, a true yard favourite.

Has taught a complete novice to ride but not unfortunately has been outgrown

Loves to jump and hack!

Hasn’t done much schooling but is fabulous with children letting them vault onto him and play around without a care in the world.

Happy go lucky chap with bags of love to give to his new jockey

He has had a bout of laminitis in the past so is shod in front with normal shoes (not remedial or bar shoes) and managed with strip grazing and exercise

Super 13h pony. Looks after the most novice / nervous rider but can also step up and be a super fun pony too.

8yrs old. He has been hacked in open spaces, traffic, good with farm machinery, animals and dogs. He’s good to catch, box, clip, farrier.

Taught child to jump and win her first sj competition on lead rein, jumped up to 70 off. He’s an absolute sweetheart to handle and have around. His only quirk is he might pull you to a bucket if it looks like it might have some leftovers in it!

My 9yr olds have hacked him in traffic and open spaces and I trust him completely. Super family best friend.

Was taken in part x after being sadly outgrown after 2 happy years.

Total first ridden family pony.

  • Apple Jack is an 11yr old 13hh piebald gelding.

He is 1000% to do in all ways, he has done a bit of everything including hacking, xc, sj, pc, fun rides etc.

He is a simple straight forward ride who is never strong or silly.

He is much more of a kick along type pony than a whizzy pony. He’s laid back but not stubborn. He is never spooky and is great in the heaviest of traffic.

Apple Jack will happily stand for hours to be groomed and pampered and is handled by children daily. He is good to load, catch, with the farrier etc.

There is no bad words I could say about this pony and he does genuinely deserve to find his best friend.

Great Gatsby is a Welsh A dapple grey mountain pony, rising 8-years-old, standing at 12h (121.9cm) and registered.

Sire: Friars Rebel 51398 (GRB)
Dam: 118825 H Lollipop (OS).
He is green passported.

He excelled as a Novice M&M first ridden, trained by the talented Sophie Curry in his previous home in Wales.

This super hacking/hunting pony is the safest of rides, never bucks or naps out riding. He will go in company or on his own, first or last. He also loves beach rides, providing a fun and safe experience. He has participated in all Pony Club activities, rallies, PC camp, XC mini eventing, and performs a lovely dressage test. Although he has competed in local shows X poles - 60cm with some wins, sometimes his heart isn’t always in it. My daughter has enjoyed a fun-filled year with him and has learned a lot, but she has simply outgrown him and moved on to a new larger pony.

This well-maintained pony is up-to-date on vaccinations, feet, teeth, and worming he travels well alone or in company and stands nicely on a trailer or horsebox.

With regards to his temperament,
he can be defensive in his stable, putting his ears back and threatens to bite. However, he is improving all the time, as the video shows, with a 10-year-old tacking him up on her own. We are looking for a good, knowledgeable home who could continue working on his ground manners in the stable; and his price reflects this. Considering offers around £2500.

Transportation can be arranged, equally, Tack is available by separate negotiation.
