Georgia Darlington home from HOYS!

13th October 2015 | HOYS Blog Part 2

Well I had an amazing time at Horse of The Year Show, and I don't really know how to start this as I can't even put how amazing it was into words!

On Thursday Tynwydd Good Friday my Section C 133cm Working Hunter Pony, jumped clear in the 13hh M&M WHP class in the Caldene Arena and went onto win that class! So that meant that I had the championship in the Main International Arena that evening. Going into the championship I just went in with the aim to have fun, do a great gallop, and just enjoy the moment. Did I ever think I would be champion? No. Well when they called my number out as the champion M&M Working Hunter Pony of the Year, I couldn't quite believe it. My lap of honour was a highlight I will never forget. I was so in shock I forgot to do my circle before galloping out! So I almost ran over the judges! But Smartie did an amazing gallop out the ring and the smile on my face in the photo just says it all!

I was slightly disappointed with Beauty on The Bay's result, as she went amazing as she normally does but the judges weren't going for her type of pony. So unfortunately didn't get a place in that, even though I think she did deserve to at least get in the top 11. Oh well, I can't complain!

The week before we went up to Horse of The Year show we found out that Conan Spartacus wasn't very well, so we weren't really sure whether to take him to compete or leave him at home to recover over the winter. With the vets permission, we decided to take him and see how he was feeling whilst we were up there. My trainer Ben and I decided that I would give it a go but if he didn't feel himself when he was jumping round I would just retire and bring him out, and in the end, keep him well for another day and not have an upset in the ring with everybody watching! He started off jumping his round really well but we had a stop at fence 5, so I decided to just give him a pat and call it a day. Hopefully over the winter we can sort his problem out and next year he will be feeling better in him self and we will have a good year.

I would like to thank HorseQuest for the opportunity to create these two blogs and for my rug, jackets and tops, which kept us nice and warm on the treks down to the Caldene and back!

Well done everyone who competed at HOYS!
