16hh 5yo Irish Sports Horse type gelding. No breeding recorded. A real pocket rocket powerhouse jumping/hunting machine type with a sane and sensible head. Super genuine and trainable and a real contender for showjumping, eventing or hunting. Needs a competent, confident rider.
This guy is a complete freak of nature for his combination of brain, temperament and ability. A smart, athletic model with a bit of substance and plenty of frame still to fill. He is very level headed and super consistent - he is exactly the same every day, wherever he is, whether that's schooling at home, hacking, competing or hunting.
Last year as a 4yo his focus was on going out and seeing the world rather than being hammered in the school and so he is still a bit green in his schooling. However as a result he does have a real professional attitude. Last year he competed in showjumping to 90cm, dressage to Prelim, ODEs at 80cm as well as hunting, fun rides and lots of hacking. He was then turned away all winter and spring and given time to mature and chill out which has really benefitted him. Now back in work and competing and training regularly.
Moves very well across all 3 paces. Big walk, active trot and a powerful, uphill canter with plenty of gears waiting to establish as he strengthens up and matures. Offers some nice work into the bridle and has gained some respectable marks at Prelim level already, including a 31 at his first ever event last year showing he is certainly capable of sub 30 scores in future with the right rider. He is well balanced and obedient but green still in his schooling due to spending time on other activities. He is big moving and a forward, responsive ride with a massive engine - think Ferrari. He tries very hard to do exactly what he thinks you are asking so he needs a balanced, competent rider with an independent seat. The better you ride him the better he goes.
One of the boldest horses I've sat on to a fence. Showing immense scope and desire to clear the jump and leave it up. Well balanced and rhythmical round a course and rarely looks at a thing but he is a forward, onward bound, competitive type. Locks on and takes you in whilst still staying rideable and gives every fence his absolute best shot, stays straight through doubles and combinations. Doesn't go looking for a way out. Plenty of stride, opens up very well cross country so should not struggle to make the time. Ready for a British Novice now. Has done a couple of one day events at 80 and would be a great contender for Cotswold Cup or BE next season with the right production.
Has done plenty of fun rides and hunting, continuing to keep a sane and level head at all times whilst keen and capable to answer all questions. Good in a group, doesn't get silly and is mannerly at all times.
Balto is a serious contender for any discipline and is ready to crack on and continue where we leave off. He hasn't been hammered in the school, rather that time has been spent taking him out and about and seeing as much of the world as possible.
Hacks alone and in company, good on the roads and in open spaces. Leads or follows and is often the horse we put random people on when we need an extra! Sound with no medical history or notes. Balto is good and mannerly on the ground but he can be a sensitive soul and has previously been put off people through the viewing process where they have come in too aggressive. He is not the kind of horse that will be happy with you and all your mates and family bursting into the stable grabbing at his legs and tail - that will make him cross. Treat him with respect and he will respect you back. We will be picky on who we allow to view Balto and will stop viewings if we don't think the match is right, no matter how far you've driven. Please be honest and realistic with your ability and expectations when phoning.
Balto lives in or out and is currently living out in a herd. Very straightforward and a pleasure to have around. Currently doing very well barefoot. Very genuine, willing and trainable horse who enjoys the job. He has plenty of scope for a competitive amateur to produce on seriously into any discipline and the attitude and maturity to make it such a rewarding experience. Absolutely no quirks or vices but he is a quality sports horse and not a dog or a donkey so needs to be treated with due respect.
