SCOTSHAVEN MESTAG - Bert. 13.2hh black Fell gelding, just turned 11. He's wide and really pulls the leg up, I'm 5ft 4ins.
Bert is only for sale as I have limited time due to my own personal reasons. He is too good to be a field ornament and therefore it’s only fair to let him go to another fabulous home.
He's a lovely pony and will excel with the right rider and therefore will only go to a loving and knowledgeable home. He is NOT a novice ride, he can be a bit spooky, sometimes sharp (not dangerous in any way) and is not a drag along on a rope and therefore needs a confident small adult or older competitive teenager. Bert was gelded late (hence his showing status) and has covered mares so he still has the stallion presence although he has a great temperament.
I have owned Bert since September 2023. He is a gentleman in the stable, you can muck out around him, open and close doors without him barging, brush him happily. He loves attention.
I have taken him to some riding club instruction, dressage, hacked him out in company and on his own (he can be spooky). He has previously won an NPS Picton Qualifier and inhand classes in England and has won prelim dressage.
He likes to be up front on his hack. We live on a farming/ shooting estate. In winter the shooters are out with dogs and guns and he never bothers. He regularly has cows beside him. We have a Shetland pony, chickens, goats and sheep all of which he will happily share his field with.
He can be turned out on his own he's not bothered at all which is great. He loads in a trailer or lorry with no issues. Great with the farrier and clipping (currently he's fully clipped), with both I use a horslyx lick which he likes. He is great with the vet, his teeth were done in October, wormed in April, feet trimmed (currently barefoot and has great feet) in April and all flu vacs are up to date.
He would excel in a competitive home. He has been over poles and did some small jumps in a previous home. He likes variety and I'm sure would excel at cross country or workers. He has three lovely paces and has the potential to do extremely well in the show ring. He is still eligible for NPS novice classes. He's currently ridden in a fulmer comfort snaffle. After having time off due to a family bereavement Bert is now back into full work, new video uploaded of him being ridden on 18/05, he’s getting schooled now and ready for shows. Still a little more work to do on his outline.
Price includes his fylde ray saddle, sabre show bridle, endless amount of rugs etc or
£4500 without his tack and rugs.
Lots of videos and photos on request. Based in Highland.
