Sad sale of our 12.2hh, 6-year-old registered Dartmoor pony who has been a much-loved lead rein pony for our son. Gigi adores children – she’ll happily stand for hours to be groomed and fussed over, and she’s very easy for little ones to handle and lead.
She’s done lots on the lead rein:
• Pony Club rallies and camp
• Mini show jumping (50cm) and cross-country (40cm)
• Hacking alone and in company on the road and in open spaces, and enjoys ride-and-lead with or without a rider
• Confident around all aspects of busy farm life (tractors, livestock, etc)
We purchased Gigi from her breeders on Dartmoor, Langworthy Farm - she came 5th as a 3yo at the Royal Bath & West with them. She has excellent breeding lines - temperament, conformation and performance.
She’s great to catch, load, clip, and shoe (currently shod in front, but has also been successfully barefoot), and is up to date with teeth, vaccinations, and worming. Lives in or out.
We’re only selling as my son is doing less riding now due to cricket. Gigi has been brilliant on the lead, but he’s not quite ready to ride her independently yet – and she’s still a young pony with more to give.
Gigi has just had 8 weeks of professional schooling with a petite adult rider so she is now confidently working off the lead ready for her next rider. She has three correct paces and happily pops a small course of jumps around 50–55cm. She’s got a great attitude - safe and sensible, bold and confident but not strong or silly.
That said, she’s still only 6 and isn’t the finished article yet. She’s been slowly and carefully produced and has a great foundation, but she will need a knowledgeable or supportive home to continue her education and help her gain confidence with a small, capable rider.
She’s not a push-button first pony just yet – but she’s genuine, sweet-natured, and eager to please. We’d love her to find the right home ready for a summer of fun with her next jockey.
