We have owned Fred for 4 years and he is only for sale due to being outgrown by my 14 yo daughter, who has now moved up to horses. We have had him since he was 3 ½ and green as a cucumber. Full history known – never sick, nor sorry and now a very well rounded, brave, honest and loyal pony.
Fred is an amazing pony, full of character as you would expect from a Welshy Cob cross – he follows my daughter around like a large ginger labrador. I would say he is best suited to an experienced novice or even a petite adult (my daughter is 5’ 6” and still comfortably rides him). He is a real chunk of a pony, so takes the leg well. He would make a perfect lead rein/ first pony but would be totally wasted – but ideal for younger siblings to learn on though.
Fred has done pretty much everything with us – jumping, cross country, hacking, canter tracks, basic dressage tests, clinics, equine archery, working equitation – he’ll try anything. The only thing we haven’t done is showing, simply because it’s not our thing – but everywhere he goes we are told we should show him – he certainly has the looks for it! In the right hands he would do really well in dressage too. He will school all day long and loves it when you change it up a bit with poles or barrels.
His favourite has to be jumping and has competed up to 70cm (plenty of ribbons) – he has jumped over a metre in the school with ease. You can literally turn him loose in the school and he will jump all on his own. My daughter even jumps and schools him bare back in just a head collar. He is very brave and honest and always tries his best no matter what you put in front of him. When we took him to our local XC course, on grass for the first time, he jumped everything first time without hesitation – like a pro!
Fully up to date with vaccinations, had farrier every 8 weeks (bare foot), teeth (done yearly) and wormers, physio visits every 8 weeks (very spoilt pony but he deserves it).
Fred is straightforward to ride and has been ridden by children and adults, from 5 to 35, with different riding abilities from novice to advanced. Fred is happy to plod around the school or on hacks, but he will step it up for the more advanced rider - he loves his job. He does need an experienced home though, he is such a kind sole, but he is strong - so no first timers please.
He loves a fuss and is good to shoe / groom/ bath / tack up - he can fidget a bit but just needs to be told. He has only ever been clipped once; he was good as gold – just stick a Lickit in front of his nose and he will do anything for you.
Currently turned out during the day with a mixed herd and stabled at night. He has previously been in both single and paired turn out and was perfectly happy. Easy to catch from the field. He has impeccable stable manners and is very clean (so easy to muck out!). He can be a bossy little git in the field, until he learns his place (but he is part Welshy after all).
Like new Kent & Masters (PC long leg version - 2yo) saddle, bridle and rugs AVAILABLE BY SEPARATE NEGOTIATION.
Fred will ONLY go to a true 5* experienced private home where he will stay for life – either as a family pony to be passed down or an adult rider. I will not sell him to just be passed on again and again every couple of years – sorry. It goes without saying we would like to stay in touch.
Please no time wasters, definitely no dealers and only get in touch if he is within your budget and you can give him a loving, experienced, lifelong home – home is far more important than price (within reason). Potential homes will be vetted.
