Poppy is really just the most perfect all rounder and much loved mare. She is the sweetest girl with a big personality, such a fun ride and really loves her job. She will turn her hoof to anything, loves hacking (happy on her own or in company, but she’s never hacked on busy roads), moves beautifully in the school, will happily pop round a small course of jumps around 60/70cm, or bigger single fences/grids, and she particularly loves cross country. She is a safe type, not particularly spooky and fairly laid back but not a plod along in any way.
Last year, Poppy had a go at showing, where she was successful, bringing home rosettes from every show. Poppy has been out to several venues, showing, fun rides, showjumping etc. She loves it and takes it all in her stride. She would make a cracking little event horse for someone, she loves water, goes straight through without batting an eyelid, absolutely loves cross country, will do an amazing test as she has beautiful floaty and balanced movement, and will happily pop round a small course of showjumps. She would also make a good show horse, or just any discipline, she is an amazing all rounder and takes everything in her stride.
In February this year Poppy had a small scale surgery to treat lameness in her left hind, where the surgeon found a small tear in her tendon which he treated, and she is now perfectly sound and back to loving her work, doing lots of hacking, walk trot canter in the school, and has recently popped a few small fences, which she absolutely loved.
Poppy has good strong feet and is good for the farrier (has always been barefoot), good to load and travel, good to bath, catch and will stand for hours to be groomed, but we have found she is better with sedation for clipping and dentals.
In the 4 and a half years that we’ve had Poppy, she has lived on a busy yard, which she enjoyed and is happy to watch everything going on e.g. tractors and farm machinery. She’ll live in or out, but prefers a routine, out in a herd of mares.
Poppy is not suitable for a novice as she learns from consistent rider error and she has so much potential that shouldn’t be wasted. She would really suit a small competitive adult who is looking to go out and have some fun on a cracking little pony. We think very highly of this mare and has just been the most amazing pony over the past 4 years, so 5* home only and no time wasters as this is a very sad sale of a much loved pony due to being hopelessly outgrown. She is looking for a forever home and her new best friend will no doubt love her as much as we do and have the most amazing time.
