I bought Isla (Robe Island Girl) earlier this year as a project after finishing university and what a pony she is! She is a lovely stamp of a Connemara, all Class 1 breeding, with plenty of half siblings out doing BE / BSJA- I am sure she could follow in their footsteps.
What sets Isla apart is her temperament- from the day we brought her home she has not put a foot wrong and is incredibly level headed in every aspect. She is totally uncomplicated and easy to handle, never sharp or bolshy, and very friendly- will trot up to you in the field, never grumpy or mareish. Easy to clip, bath, shoe, pull mane, good for the dentist etc. She is as perfect to load, travelling on a trailer or a lorry.
Dressage wise, Isla produces nice work. I have taken her to some unaffiliated dressage competitions in which she has placed and had lovely comments from judges. We have had plenty of dressage lessons, she is very willing and a quick learner, and I have no doubt she will excel in this sphere in the future.
Isla is brave and really enjoys jumping. She is unphased by fillers , planks etc and has been out to arena hires, an SJ training show and PC showjumping rallies. We have taken her XC schooling and it is absolutely her thing, she gives you a fantastic feel over a fence. She is bold over ditches, into water, up and down steps etc. It would be great to see an ambitious rider give her a competitive career.
Isla has been to PC rallies, including an all-day rally, with a young rider who had ridden her just once before. She would make a super pony club pony for a young person- she’s fun and so easy to do -and looks very smart among a crowd.
Isla recently went out with the Readyfield Bloodhounds on hound exercise among a big field of 89 and was foot perfect- sensible and unphased by people charging around her. She has been to hunt rides and fun rides and always behaves impeccably. I imagine she would make an incredible hunting pony for somebody.
She is super to hack out, impeccable in all traffic, including farm vehicles/ lorries and even a fire engine! She is good alone, not spooky, does not nap, and is not strong or silly in company.
Isla has a forward thinking mind, bold and loves to get on with a job, and would be perfect for someone as brave as she is. She would be ideal for a competent young teen or as a mother daughter share. Equally, for this reason she is not suitable for a novice, or for a young child. She is not sharp or silly, but she is ‘more go than woah’ and certainly not a kick-along.
Whilst I would love to keep her (and have been seriously tempted to!) I am going travelling and starting a full time job in the new year, hence the sale. A good home is very important, she is such a kind and gentle pony, and I would love to stay in touch, as would her previous owner.
She is up to date with vaccinations and teeth. No vices. No vet/medical history. A school is available to use for viewing and plenty of good hacking. Price includes her saddle, bridle, rugs etc and is certainly negotiable to a good home. Leicestershire
