I am very reluctantly offering my Irish Draught mare for sale. This is through no fault of her own, it is because I run a busy stud and have very little time to ride her at present. She is only available to the very best of homes.
Foxy is a genuine, kind and honest Irish Draught mare. She is by Pembroke Royal Blue whose stock excels time and time again in the show ring at the very highest levels and her dam is closely related to the renowned stallion and Dublin Horse Show winner Tors Gentleman Farmer. Foxy was shown as a young mare and she did very well, but on the whole she has very low milage. Foxy came to me directly from her breeder therefore her full history is known.
This mare has no vices and she is good in every way. She is perfect to catch, clip, shoe, rug, groom etc and she loads beautifully. She is light and respectful in hand. She is very good to hack, she hacks out alone and in company but has mostly hacked alone and she is sensible in traffic however we do live rurally so she doesn't see a lot of traffic. She is used to farm traffic. Foxy has lived as part of a herd and also just with a companion, I would only let her go to a home where she has at least one other horse for company.
Foxy has a natural aptitude for dressage. She has nice balanced paces and she is light in the hand, but a little rusty a present as I haven't had time to do a great deal with her. With very little effort, mostly just time and fitness, this mare would go out and easily do a Novice test. She began work at Elementary level and would be doing very well now if I had more time to work her. Her full brother has done exceptionally well having won Regional Dressage Championships at a good level. Foxy would also be a perfect choice for anyone wanting to do showing classes. She would be perfect for Hunter classes and also the Irish Draught ridden classes.
I would say that this mare would be perfect for a quiet lady rider. For someone looking to hack, do dressage, some showing and things like fun rides and clinics. I have never done much jumping with her albeit she has jumped a bit in the past. She would be fine to pop logs on hacks and fun rides but didn't have that natural want to jump so If you are looking for a jump horse then she probably isn't the one for you.
The home here is of the upmost importance. Foxy has only ever lived on her breeders stud and then on my stud. She is used to a quiet routine therefore I wouldnt really want her to have to now adjust to the hustle and bustle of a livery yard. I would like her to find a private home where she will become someone's best friend. She is a very loving and gentle mare and she deserves only the best. She loves to be spoiled and she loves a fuss. She is a good doer and she is easily kept.
Foxy is a very straightforward mare. I have never seen her buck or rear, nap or bolt under saddle. She is forward going and fun and she has plenty of power. The worst she has done to my knowledge is to spook and jog on the odd occasion. She would need a capable and confident rider but she wouldn't require a professional type of rider or even someone with masses of experience. However for the general wellbeing of the mare I would prefer her not to go to a novice home.
The mare has no veterinary history of any significance. She has never had lameness issues or any other health issues to my knowledge and has never had joint injections etc like many of her age. Any future buyer is welcome to have her full veterinary history. She is up to date with worming and is also perfect with the horse dentist, never having required sedation. And whilst she is perfect to shoe, she is currently unshod. She has no marks other than a small scar on her nose which you barely notice. She is clean limbed.
Please contact me if you are genuinely interested. Any potential home will be vetted, just to make sure that I am doing right by this lovely mare if I find her a home that appears to be suitable and it must, without question be a home for life. No loans and no LWVTB. Foxy is currently hacked out two to three times a week and schooled when I have time. She is offered at a lower price as she is a little rusty in her work but it will soon all come back. She is a genuine mare and she is lovely to ride.
