GEORGE is a very smart example of a purebred Irish draught. He is extremely good looking and is well put together, standing currently just over 16.2 expected to finish up 17hh.
He is by Millhollow Stroller a grade 1 bronze merrit stallion, out of a home bred grade 1 bronze merrit mare. He has inherited their movement action.
Hes been brought on slowly to allow him time to mature both physically and mentally, He was started last year at 4 and then given the winter off to grow on and came back into work this spring with no problems at all. George is one of the most unflappable young horses I’ve come across, I’ve never experienced him to be silly or “hot up” He’s definitely a more woah than go type, If in doubt he just slows down and stops!
George likes to be out in the country, He enjoys hacking in company, but is also fine going alone, just requires a bit more “leg on” at the start when alone as he’s not done much of it.
He has attended his first local show, competing in the novice working hunter (60cm) where he took everything in his stride, including tannoys, generators and the dog scurry being right next to his ring.
He has seen hounds. I recently took him autumn hunting and again he took the whole thing in his stride, a few green moments as to be expected for his fist time, but we both had an enjoyable morning.
George has a comfortable willing jump and is honest to both coloured and rustic fences. He has been to our local mini-Xc course where he popped sweetly over everything first time. He’s not the most careful over coloured poles but he is not a stopper, he’s not phased by fillers and I do feel that his technique will improve with time and more experience.
I recently took him up to a friends farm where we met up with her and her horse, and went for a lovely evening ride round the woodland where she lives, Again we had an easy and enjoyable social ride.
George is very capable of schooling nicely on the flat but it’s just not really his thing. He finds it extremely pointless going round in circles and quickly becomes disinterested and lazy in the school, and it’s hard work to keep him motivated.
He has mostly lived out with rugs and a shelter and is happy doing so but equally is fine to be stabled. He’s generally easy to do and have on the yard but does need someone who will make sure he minds his manners on the ground. He’s not in any way nasty but sometimes forgets how big he is and that he needs to be mindful of personal space! We’ve had a few squashed toes along the way!
Up to date with teeth/jabs/feet. Good with traffic.
Overall George is a lovely easy going young horse that’s no problem to have around. He would suit someone looking for a very smart pleasure horse to enjoy the countryside with friends, go on fun rides, pub rides, Xc jumping, follow the hounds at a more leisurely pace and generally just enjoy. He would suit someone more mature thats no longer looking to raz about at speed but does have the necessary experience to continue educating a young horse in the right way.
He will not go to a nervous or novice home because although he is a very sensible boy he’s is only 5 and as to be expected of any youngster does still have babyish moments where he needs his rider to take charge and show him what he needs to do.
George is for sale on behalf of his breeders. He’s had a good start and a solid basic education so far and is now ready to go on and enjoy life with a new rider. A long term home is of the upmost importance and his breeders would love to be able to keep in touch. Open to vet
