About Portia
Portia is a sweet, genuine 13-year-old 16hh mixed Portuguese sports horse mare (as per passport). She’s a lovely low-level all-rounder who enjoys hacking and a varied life. This is a sad, heartfelt decision, but finding the right long-term home is the priority.
I’ve had her for 5+ years and she’s done a bit of everything with me: low-level show jumping, schooling, hacking, fun rides, XC schooling, hunter trials and she has hunted previously. She can have the odd spook, so I wouldn’t describe her as a totally novice ride.

What she’s like
• Stunning Portuguese sports horse type

• Good in traffic and sensible in open spaces
• Fine with dogs
• No vices
• Decent to catch when in a routine
• Good to shoe
• Good in the field
• Used to living out with mares, currently turned out with one gelding

Work and ability
• Works nicely on the flat in a good rhythm
• Basic schooling and lateral work, has done low-level dressage
• Jumped up to 80cm previously, honest and straightforward
• XC schooling, hunter trials, fun rides and hunted previously
• Has been out of consistent work for the past few months

Important note (being upfront)
Portia is not currently a reliable loader. She was recently in a loan home where they hoped to travel and compete, but they didn’t have the time to work through it. With patience and consistent practice, I believe this can improve (I travelled her every other week about two years ago), but I want to be transparent so she goes to a home that suits her.

• Confident novice to low-level rider wanting a steady partner
• Hacking, fun rides, low-level dressage and low-level jumping
• A home that doesn’t need to travel often, or someone happy to invest time in loading

Not suited to
• Busy competitive home needing frequent travel right now (loading not consistent)
