Rou is a 13 year old small and compact 16.1hh thoroughbred. Due to him being a smaller horse, he suits a slightly smaller rider (for example, I am 5’3 and the perfect size for him).
We have owned Rou since 2021 and he has been my horse of a lifetime. He has taken me from a nervous jumper to competing round many BE100 tracks.
I love my flatwork and Rou has allowed me to climb up the levels and is consistently competing at elementary level and training at medium.
Rou is straightforward and balanced to jump, he is never spooky at fillers, water trays, planks etc and is competitive in a jump off.
During his time with us we have found that he has a real love for arena eventing and has placed in many arena eventing championships including his win at PC spring festivals in 2024.
Cross country, Rou is super fun and never struggles to make the time, he is adjustable and not phased by ditches, water or drops. He is very straightforward to ride on a cross country course at BE90 but if he is to step up to BE100 cross country he requires a rider who will give him plenty of confidence. Rou has competed at novice eventing in the past with a professional rider but I have never had the desire to go above 100.
When we got Rou, his feet were not in a great condition but we have found that taking his shoes off in the winter and putting them back in for summer has made all the difference. He could now probably be barefoot all year round but it is our preference to shoe him in the summer so that we can put studs in for cross country.
Rou is never sick or sorry, he loves his turn out and would happily live out 24/7. He is great at loading and can stand on the trailer at an event all day with no fuss, easy to shoe, dentist and clip.
Rou is quirky and he can buck when he is wound up or excited. This has definitely calmed down over the years I have owned him but he can still be unpredictable with it so it is important that he is ridden by someone confident and capable. He can get very excited whilst out hacking especially in an open field but he is great with any form of traffic although we have never really hacked him on roads as ours are not safe to ride on.
This is a devastating sale of my gorgeous boy as I am off to University and he is too good to sit at home and do nothing. He is such a personality and is adored by everyone in the family.
Rou is worth much more than we are asking for him but due to his quirks he is available at a bargain price for his abilities. Finding him the perfect home is my number one priority and we will be completely honest to any perspective buyers.
