Sunny Du Carel by the renowned competition stallion Harlequin Du Carel - great jumping bloodlines!
Sunny is a 15.2hh, 16 year old Irish Sports Horse gelding originally from Ireland.
I have owned Sunny for 6 years and he has had rather low mileage for that amount of time. We have competed in working hunter, show jumping and arena eventing. Been to cross country and also done mounds of hacking and numerous fun rides over the years. He has been picked up and dropped off multiple times during those years due to my lack of time and my degenerative disc disease.
Was competed last summer after 2/3 years away from the ring (only back in work 6 weeks prior) and had great results - won both workers classes at Hayscastle and took champion Hunter in good company. 2nd in novice workers at Pembroke show, and produced numerous clears showjumping last year and arena eventing
He is a super horse who loves to jump and produces a lovely flat show. I have competed up-to 90cm but have jumped 1.20 at home. He could compete higher but due to my nerves and the fact I have never had him in full work for more than 12 months at a time (daughter riding constantly, my work commitments and my bad back) I haven’t done this. He will jump almost anything and very rarely knocks a pole or refuses.
Good points
Super lovely ride and fantastic jump
He is great to hack
Easy to maintain, happily lives in or out
Eye catching when plaited
Great to clip
Great for the farrier
Great to have mane/tail pulled
Bad points
•Sunny does get claustrophobic in a small trailer… I travel him in a ifor Williams 511 without the partition. He can get fidgety travelling long distances and does not like to be left on the box.
•Sunny does have a personality and does get over-excited at times when going to events with lots of other horses… I tack him up before travelling to a fun ride so I can just get on and go when we arrive… he is not keen to hang around.
•You may get the occasional small buck around a course - he enjoys himself too much ??
Sunny did have mild ulcers approximately 4 years ago due to our other pony at the time sadly coming down with colic. We believe the stress of her being off the yard is what caused this. He has never had these since. He has been off work since November after competing last summer but is now back in work with myself hacking and schooling.
Sunny is your typical excitable, loves to jump chestnut. He can be your perfect granddaddy hacking horse one day (he has been ridden by my daughter occasionally from as young as the age of 5) but some days he will say this is far too slow I have zero patience and let’s goooooo! He is a huge amount of fun but not for a nervous rider when at shows or fun rides.
I have hundreds of photos and videos… He has been very loved by me and he will only go to the best of homes. Genuine reason for sale.
He is up to date with vaccines, back and teeth done within the last 4 months. He does require sedation for teeth.
He will come with tack…
