Due to daughter's study commitments and her leaving for university we are rehoming our handsome gelding Ozzie.
- Needs a knowledgeable, patient and competent rider/handler. Sensitive horse that prefers a quieter environment and calm consistent handlers.
- Once warmed up Ozzie is a nice forward ride. Enjoys hacking in woodland and fields - keen to canter at the head of a group. Can nap while hacking alone if unsure, but takes confidence from his rider so he can be lead past any issues and carry on.
- Never bolted or reared.
- Full history known. 1 owner prior to us, who produced him from the field aged 6, and evented him 3 times. We bought him 4.5 years ago age 9 primarily for showjumping and hacking. Has jumped clear 80cm and 90cm courses, and up to 1.20m in jumping clinics but has lost confidence and will plant in a show/arena environment. Still enjoys short sessions of fun jumping (and is very forward) where height is built up gradually.
- Currently out on grass in the day/in at night but could live out 24/7 with field shelter
- Very loyal companion horse, can be turned out with mares and geldings. Has displayed separation anxiety after joining a new herd, this improved once settled in. Finds being on his own stressful. Happiest when turned out daily, and able to have visual and physical contact with stable neighbours (e.g. through bars). Currently comes in from field with his bonded companion.
- Up to date with vaccinations, farrier, dental and saddle checks. Consistently low worm counts.
- Good for farrier, vet, dentist.
- Has been barefoot for 2 years, wears boots on fronts for hacking on hard ground. Good with farrier so could be shod in new home if necessary.
- History of glandular ulcers, since scoped clear. Managed with turnout and constant access to forage. Food guards in stable.
- Diagnosed with arthritic joint in neck 2 years ago. Since then has had twice yearly steroid injections to maintain comfort and suppleness when schooling and jumping. These may not be necessary if going to a hacking-only home.
- Full vet records at Bell Equine can be disclosed, vet is happy to discuss any concerns.
- Comes with Agria lifetime equine policy in place (unfortunately neck injections are not covered)
- Hesitant loader. No trailers. In previous home travelled with company on 7.5t lorry. He has only travelled a few times in a 3.5t box while we have owned him, as we do not have our own transport, and have hacking and excellent riding facilities/instructors/shows at our yard. Loaded and travelled fine with a little sedation.
- Good on quiet roads, used to cars, vans etc. Familiar with yard vehicles such as JCBs, forklift truck, tractors. Good with dogs.
- Ozzie will make a lovely ridden horse to someone who is prepared to give him time to settle in and do the positive training required to get the best from him.
- Comes with tack and boots (fronts)
- Can be viewed at livery yard in Bexley/Sidcup (South East London/Kent border, can be accessed via non ULEZ road)
- No loans or trials
