Red Irish Draught x (IHS passport) chestnut mare, flax mane (growing back slowly as previous owner cut it really short) and tail, 15hh 17 years old, but do not be put off by her age, she has plenty in the tank! Very honest sale, just too much horse power for what we need.
We purchased Red in November 2025, where she was out of condition and need to gain some weight and muscle, also giving her time to settle in to a new yard etc. we have been working on this over the past 4 months, she has gain her fitness and just needs a little more on her hind, but would be ready for the season ahead. She is absolutely adorable and is like a big puppy, follows you around and is very relaxed. Easy to handle/catch, will stand and be groomed all day long, shoed, loads/unloads trailer or box no problem, up to date with vaccines and loves a good head rub.
Not bothered about living in or out and is chilled coming in at night and going out in morning.
We purchased her for our novice daughter as she was advertised as fun ride/happy hacker/perfect for confident novice, who could pop a few jumps, but for us she is just too much and daughter is starting to lose confidence.
In her past life She was a British show jumping horse and has competed in cross country and hunt trails, so has been very used to living life in the fast lane, we thought she would be happy to retire to a much easier life, but she has proved she is always up for more and she’s not ready for retirement of any sort.
Shes not nasty, she just has speed and is forward going, once she knows she needs to do a job and every jump in her head is at least 1 metre+ it’s all systems go! Which when you are only just getting into jumping can be scary! She needs someone who can keep her on track.
She has a sensitive mouth and very well school and does all three paces in the arena, she has an absolutely lovely trot and would turn heads in competitions. Out on hacks she’s steady, isn’t spooked and the biggest of vehicles don’t faze her, but when she realises she homeward bound, she gets joggy and it’s full steam ahead. Again with a confident person I am sure this would be easily rectified. She’s been on own and with others.
She has been ridden by more experienced riders in the yard and all agree she’s a gem of a horse in the right hands and you will go on to have a lot of fun with her. She needs a knowledgeable, experienced rider who can give her what she needs. She still wants to work and will make someone the perfect horse to compete with.
Absolutely no novices, she needs a knowledgeable person to bring the best out in her. No time wasters please as this is a hard sell as we thought we had found the one.
