Shannondale Freddy
Fred is a very attractive, genuine gelding with three expressive paces, a bold jump and an exceptional temperament. He is an absolute pleasure to train and ride.
He has been produced by a young rider with excellent support from her experienced and knowledgeable mum, alongside regular coaching. This is a rare opportunity to purchase a horse who has been a hugely loved family horse, yet cared for and managed to a professional standard. He is incredibly easy to keep — happiest living out 24/7 to mooch, then coming in to be ridden and fed.
Fred is beautifully schooled and well established on the flat. He is confident with leg yield, shoulder-in, travers and half pass, along with medium trot and canter, counter canter, walk–canter and canter–walk transitions, and rein back. He has a naturally positive attitude to his work and always tries his hardest for his rider.
He has a genuine, bold and careful jump. Fred has had years of correct gymnastic training and has seen all types of fillers, water trays, etc., making him extremely brave and straightforward.
Cross-country, Fred is a real standout. He is incredibly bold and brave, and once a partnership is established, you can simply point and go. He jumps in a lovely rhythm, stays rideable, and is unfazed by any type of fence — ditches, steps, water, etc. He genuinely loves his job.
Fred’s kind, affectionate nature is one of his greatest assets. He is easy and safe to handle in every way, with no quirks or complications. He really is the definition of a “good boy” with a heart of gold.
Fred regularly benefits from water treadmill sessions, Theraplate sessions, and routine chiropractor/physio care. He has truly been treated like a king for the past five years.
Fred would make a fantastic partner for a competitive grassroots rider. This is the level at which he is happiest, and homes aiming to move up to Juniors/2* will not be considered, as his long-term happiness and welfare are our priority.

Fred is excellent to shoe, clip, load, and travel. He hacks confidently on the road and in open spaces, both alone and in company. He has also hunted with both mum and daughter and has proven to be a total superstar. He has field mastered bloodhounds and is absolutely brilliant out hunting. He stands, follows, leads walks. He loves beach rides and his young rider regularly hacks him bareback.
A 10* home is essential for this very special horse. His family are heartbroken to be selling him, but his rider now has ambitions to move up the levels, while Fred is happiest staying at grassroots.
All prospective homes will be carefully vetted. Plenty of year-round turnout is a must, as his future lifestyle is extremely important to us.
Fred is being sold on behalf of his owners, and I (coach) will be handling all enquiries as I know him very well and want to make sure he finds the perfect home.
Serious enquiries only can then speak to Fred’s owners.
