Shaky (show name Shakin Stevens) is my 16.2hh Dutch Warmblood gelding and this is one of the hardest adverts l've ever had to write. He was my first horse. I knew nothing when I bought him, and he very patiently taught me so much. He is the type of horse that looks after you when you don't even realise you need looking after.
In his younger years, Shaky competed up to 1.40m, travelling and jumping across Portugal and Spain as a professional showjumper before I bought him as a 15-year-old to help build my confidence. He has truly been there, done it, and worn the T-shirt. In October 2024, he was referred to Liphook for investigation of bruising to his pedal bone. Given his previous career and findings, I made the decision to retire him fully from jumping and find him a life where he could just be happy.
He has now been turned away and living out for around 15 months and is completely comfortable in himself with no current health issues. He is barefoot on all four feet. Shaky does have shivers in his hind legs, which unfortunately means he is unable to have his back feet picked up. This has been managed by allowing him to keep his feet on the ground and it has never caused him pain or distress, but it is an important part of his care. He is an incredibly gentle soul. He would never bite or kick and is very easy in his nature.
He can be slightly head shy when first getting to know someone, but once he trusts you he becomes very affectionate and forms a strong bond. He is good to turn out with others and mixes well in a herd. Under saddle, he would now only be suitable for very light hacking (walk and trot only). In new environments he can occasionally be a little nappy, but it is never dangerous or nasty - he just needs a calm, reassuring rider and voice. Shaky means the world to me. He was my first horse, my teacher, and a huge part of my journey.
I am looking for a 5 star knowledgeable, loving, long-term companion home only where he will be genuinely cared for and understood. Home will be carefully vetted, and I would love to stay in touch and receive updates. Absolutely no jumping or schooling work.
