This is a very difficult decision that has taken me years to make, so finding the right home for Willy is my absolute priority.
Willy is a 6 year old Irish Draught X. Willy is a genuine, kind horse who is happiest as a fun riding and hacking horse. He loves his hacking job and will go out alone or in company, taking everything in his stride. He has a lovely, genuine nature, and although he pulls the occasional grumpy face, he'd never act upon it – underneath it all, he's the sweetest horse.
Willy has enjoyed a varied life and has plenty of ‘life’ experience. We've previously done showjumping, cross-country training, showing shows, camp, beach rides, and lots of fun rides together. However, due to his needs, it's in his best interests to remain a happy hacker, where he is happiest and most comfortable.
He has very mild osteoarthritis and thin soles, meaning hacking is the most suitable job for him. He also has sarcoids on his sheath, which have been managed conservatively. He's barefoot and wears hoof boots, which we've found suit him far better than shoes after trying different options. He's currently been back in full work for almost five months after a quiet winter and has been happy, comfortable, and thriving.
Willy is incredibly easy to have around. He lives off fresh air, is low maintenance, and is the type of horse you can leave in the field for months and then hop straight back on as though he'd been ridden yesterday.
This is a heartbreaking sale, so I'm looking for a knowledgeable, loving home where he'll continue to enjoy the relaxed lifestyle he loves. I'm very happy to discuss his full medical history in detail with genuinely interested buyers.
The right home is far more important than a quick sale and I will be really picky on where he goes.
Price is without his wardrobe. Hoof boots, 2 year old new fitted saddle, bridle and rugs available via separate negotiation.
