Dougie is a super smart, athletic and incredibly loveable 15.1hh, 8-year-old dapple grey gelding who is now looking for his next person to continue his education and help him fulfil his potential.
He is being offered for sale through absolutely no fault of his own. He was originally bought for his owner’s granddaughter, who has now gone off to university and, despite the best intentions, simply doesn’t have the time to give Dougie the attention and consistency he deserves.
Dougie was bought as a lightly backed 3-year-old and was subsequently taken right back to basics and restarted, allowing him plenty of time to grow, mature and develop correctly. As a result, he has had very little wear and tear for his age and has been given a really careful start to his education.
He is now ready for someone to take the next steps with him and build on the foundations already in place. He is a lovely, genuine horse with lots of potential in the right hands.

Established walk, trot and canter
Beginning to show some lovely lateral work
Has the beginnings of collected and medium strides
Enjoys pole work
Has popped small fences and is happy jumping in a snaffle

Has attended a small local farm ride and behaved impeccably
Currently ridden in the field as the arena is too deep
Has not yet hacked due to the very busy road immediately around the yard, rather than through lack of willingness or opportunity
Dougie is not a novice ride. He can be spooky and is looking for a confident, experienced rider who understands young/green horses and can continue his education in a sympathetic, patient and consistent way.
He has been a little on the sidelines over the last year while his owner’s granddaughter has concentrated on her A levels, so he is very much not a finished article — but this is also where his exciting potential lies. He needs someone who will enjoy producing him rather than expecting a finished horse straight out of the box.
❤️ Groundwork & confidence
Dougie is a real character who absolutely loves attention and fuss. He will benefit enormously from someone investing time in his groundwork, manners and confidence and building a respectful partnership with him.
Since his field mate was sold last year, he has been turned out on his own and his confidence has noticeably suffered. He would really benefit from having horse company and a social environment, which we feel will help him enormously with his confidence and overall development.
He is happy to live in or out.

Currently shod all round due to his typical TB-type feet
Never clipped, so clipping is untested
Loading is improving really well
Bathing is also coming along nicely
Teeth, vaccinations, worm counts, saddle fitting, physio etc. all up to date
Dougie comes with his tack and some rugs.
Most importantly, this is a genuine, sad sale, and finding Dougie the right home is far more important than simply selling him. He has had a lot of care and thought put into his education so far, and we want to see that continued.
He has so much potential for someone who enjoys producing a horse and building a partnership. With the right person, time and consistency, we genuinely believe he could become a very special horse.
