Ernie (registered name ‘Pipes at Midnight’) is a 14 year-old 16.3hh bay thoroughbred gelding, very sadly looking for a new home due to rider moving to London for work. He is a lovely solid type and a good do-er. I have owned Ernie for nearly 5 years and in that time we have had a lot of fun at home, hunted, hacked, gone to the forest and beach, done fun rides, low level PC/RC activities and clinics. He ran in 7 point-to-points much earlier in his career and has a Wetherby’s passport.
Ernie is a fun and uncomplicated horse to ride at home and enjoys popping round a course of jumps or schooling on the flat. He has really smart paces and is a very forgiving ride, great at sorting his feet out when his rider messes up a stride! He is great to hack alone or in company and is good in traffic. He does not need riding every day - when I was at university I could come home and go for a ride with no problems or silliness despite him not being in regular work.
Out hunting he is an absolute machine and a real confidence-giver, he is strong and fast but stands nicely between runs and isn’t silly or annoying. He follows or leads over fences and while out with the Nar Valley Bloodhounds he has jumped a variety of hedges and hunt jumps. He would suit someone looking for a bold and exciting hunter to have a lot of fun on. Has been taken out hunting by a 5’8” woman and 5’11” man who have both had fantastic days out on him.
He is a very affectionate horse to have around and deserves a loving and caring home. He can be sensitive in new situations but is never nasty, just needs some reassurance and sympathy from his rider to get the best from him. With us he was initially a sensitive chap but as we got to know each other he soon relaxed into a confident and easy horse to have around - he is a real softy with a very kind nature.
Great to load, shoe, clip etc.
He is a lovely, sweet-natured horse who enjoys human company and lots of cuddles so a 5* home where he will be given lots of affection and love is very important! This is a very sad sale and we will miss him loads. No dealers please. Please text/Whatsapp in the first instance.
