Rhubarb is an easy to do, half-appaloosa, all-rounder with a beautiful jump.
She has done local dressage competitions, SJ, XC schooling, gridwork and flatwork clinics, hunt rides, fun rides, arena hires etc. Jumping is her favourite, but she could turn her hand to all PC/RC activities. She won both SJ classes I entered at her first RC show.
She is perfect to catch, clip, shoe, dentist, physio etc. Unfazed by traffic, barking dogs, machinery, flapping bin bags etc and generally unspooky. Hacks alone or in company, unflappable around our busy yard with children on scooters, mowers, tractors etc.
Very good do-er thriving on just grass, hay and the odd carrot, will live in or out, only front shoes. In work, fully fit and ready to go.
No vices or medical history. Passed a 5-stage vetting when I bought her. Up to date with farrier, dentist, saddler, vaccines etc. Same home 3.5 years.
Those are the good things. I want to be completely honest, so these are the downsides:
She can be difficult to load. I’ve not tried her in a lorry, but it takes patience and two people to get her into the trailer. Once she’s in, she travels well. This could be improved with regular practice, I suspect.
She can be sticky/reluctant/unenthusiastic in the school – some days she’s a delight to school but others, for reasons unknown, she will decide she doesn’t fancy it. Usually, I can get past this, but it is frustrating.
She can put in the odd buck and be occasionally fizzy. This would usually happen when cantering in open spaces, especially if she’s cantering with
other horses, or on landing from a XC jump when she’s having fun. The bucks generally aren’t unseating and I think some people would find them fun, but as I’ve got older, I’ve got less brave and am too conscious of my responsibilities to my children etc to enjoy that sort of high jinks.
Comes with a full wardrobe and tack, including fairly new saddle which was bought specifically for her.
