A real-life Barbie horse with an old head on young shoulders
Milo is a very handsome, sturdy, weight-carrying Irish gelding with possibly the sweetest nature you could ask for. At just four years old he is understandably still green in his education, but what he lacks in experience he more than makes up for with his sensible outlook, trainable attitude and genuine desire to please.
The emphasis with Milo since arriving has been on hacking and giving him positive life experiences, rather than rushing his schooling.
He hacks happily alone and in company and is equally comfortable at the front or behind. He is sensible in both open and enclosed spaces and is used to farm animals. He has popped logs while out hacking and approaches new things with a genuine “I’ll give it a go” attitude.
In the school, Milo works in walk, trot and canter and has popped small jumps. There is a nice foundation there for someone who enjoys producing a young horse correctly. He hasn’t been drilled in the school or pushed to look more established than he really is – he is a genuine four-year-old who is still learning.
Milo is currently ridden in a Fulmer cheek snaffle. Under saddle he is nicely forward-going without being sharp or whizzy. He isn’t the type who needs nagging every stride to keep moving; he responds to subtle aids and happily takes his rider forward. Equally, he isn’t hot or silly. He’s a lovely “sit there and enjoy the ride” sort of horse who tries hard to understand what is being asked of him.
On the ground he is an absolute big softy. Milo is affectionate, laid-back and adores attention – he’d happily stand being fussed over for hours. He has been handled on the ground by novices and children and is good to catch, lead, groom, etc. He currently lives out happily in a small herd and will leave his friends to come into the stable alone to be worked.
We see Milo developing into a really lovely all-rounder / Riding Club type. His greatest assets are his temperament, willingness and positive attitude to whatever is asked of him. He could make a particularly lovely family horse in time.
Although Milo often behaves like an older horse, it is important to remember that he is only four. For that reason alone, he is not suitable for a novice rider. He isn’t difficult, but his new rider needs enough experience – ideally with a knowledgeable support network around them – to continue educating a young horse and help him reach his potential.
Finding the right home is considerably more important than finding the quickest one. His current owner is extremely fond of him and would love Milo to find a long-term, ideally forever, home where he becomes part of the family. She would be delighted to stay in touch and receive occasional updates as he progresses.

To help us prioritise genuine enquiries and suitable homes, we will ask prospective viewers to send a short video showing their current riding ability before arranging a viewing. This isn’t about finding the most accomplished rider – we simply want to make sure Milo and his potential new rider are appropriately matched before asking anyone to travel.
Serious enquiries from knowledgeable, long-term homes very welcome.
