🌟 Super talented all-rounder looking for his next best friend 🌟
This is an incredibly hard advert to write. We have owned Dougie for five years and absolutely adore him. Sadly, my work commitments now mean I’m away most weeks, and it just isn’t fair for a horse who loves his work as much as he does to be standing around.
Dougie has predominantly been a show jumper and has competed BSJ up to 1.10m. He absolutely loves to jump, is very capable and thoroughly enjoys going out competing.
However, he is far more than just a show jumper. He loves cross-country, does a lovely dressage test and is training at Novice level on the flat. I genuinely think he could make a cracking Novice BE horse for the right rider.
He has also been there and done a bit of everything with us, including farm rides, beach rides, camps and plenty of hacking, so he would make a fantastic competitive all-rounder for a capable teenager or confident adult who wants one horse to go out, have fun and do a bit of everything with.
On the ground, he is an absolute sweetheart. He's basically a giant Labrador. He will follow you around, nuzzling you, looking for kisses and generally wanting to be involved in whatever you're doing. Once you've built a bond with him, there really isn't much he won't do for you.
He loves to hack and isn't fazed by things such as heavy machinery, although he can occasionally decide that something completely ridiculous, like a random blue bucket, is terrifying! So while he is safe and sane, he isn't a bombproof plod.
Dougie takes his confidence from his rider and therefore is not a novice ride. He needs a kind, confident and competent rider who will give him clear direction, particularly when jumping. He has plenty of ability and deserves a rider who can enjoy that with him.
I think his perfect person would be a competitive teen or confident adult looking for a talented horse who can become their best friend as well as their competition partner.
This is a very genuine and heartbreaking sale. If my circumstances were different, he wouldn't be going anywhere.
Finding the right person for Dougie is my absolute priority. He will not be sold to just anyone. We want someone who will love him as much as we do, appreciate his character and give him the fun, active life he deserves.
