After six years with us, our lovely May has been completely outgrown by my super-tall 16-year-old daughter and is looking for a new family to continue her adventures. May is a kind and clever mare who adjusts brilliantly to her rider. She will compete at 70/80 with my daughter one day and the next will give a 5-year-old their first trot off lead rein or will take our elderly neighbour for a relaxed hack.
May has spent five years taking part in regular pony club activities. She’s enjoyed stay-away camps at Bicton and numerous rallies doing show-jumping, cross-country and dressage. She’s also had fun doing western, horse-back archery, and led the musical ride for our pony club (in the dark with fairy lights attached to her!) She has enjoyed doing mounted games and taking part in pony club meets and hound exercises (well behaved both up near the front and at the back).
May has also hacked extensively over Dartmoor and doesn’t bat an eyelid at loose cows, sheep or ponies. She is happy tucking in on narrow lanes to allow the biggest tractors and rattly trailers to pass her. She completely ignores pigs, bicycles, bins and bin lorries, flapping bunting and flags, low-flying helicopters and military planes, builders on scaffolding, etc - hacks over busy A30 bridges and has even braved going past the school playground at lunchtime! Walks on the buckle or canters sensibly in open space, hacks alone or in company, in front or behind. Snaffle mouthed for everything. Thoroughly enjoyed a recent trip to the beach, staying sane despite her companions’ antics!
On the flat, May works consistently in an outline in walk and trot, has mastered basic lateral work, and has done prelim and novice tests (though dressage is not really my daughter’s thing). Showjumping, she excels at difficult lines and easily clears 90 in lessons (competes at 70 to 85). She’s not the most whizzy but is very careful and hates touching a pole. Not afraid of fillers, planks or loudspeakers. With a more experienced rider she goes up a gear and really enjoys it; with a novice she hops very politely over 40s and will trot between jumps.
XC she is confident doing water, ditches, steps/drops, trakehners, etc. She has not competed xc this year due to GCSEs and the hard ground, but went clear in her first pairs hunter trial last Autumn, and is very trainable so could easily pursue this further.
May walks straight onto our trailer and has also travelled happily in a box. She stands patiently to be washed, clipped and pampered for hours. She is barefoot with absolutely stellar feet (glowing refs available from our farrier) and is up to date with teeth, physio, flu, tet, and strangles vaccines. We can provide references for her from many Pony Club instructors. She has no medical history with us and passed a 5-stage vetting when we got her. Currently lives out 24/7 in a mixed herd but stables for camp and shows. Is very polite and gentle on the ground and loves dogs, cats and small children. Just looking for a new special person who will love her as much as we do and isn’t 5’9! We would very much like to keep in touch with how she’s getting on.
