A registered Irish Sports Horse by Sandys Light, out of a mare by Andes, Dom is a substantial stamp with plenty of presence. There is a lot of horse here, and a lovely kind character to go with it.
Hacking is very much Dom’s speciality. He happily goes out alone or in company, is good in traffic and open spaces, and is neither spooky nor sharp. A lovely horse for someone who wants to enjoy getting out and about.
On the flat, Dom works in a nice outline and always tries his best. He would make a lovely partner for the odd Prelim or Novice dressage test, or simply for someone who enjoys their schooling alongside plenty of hacking.
He is also happy jumping around courses of 80/90cm, taking fillers and the usual decorations in his stride. A useful allrounder who can turn his hoof to a bit of everything without needing an ambitious competition calendar.
Dom spent time in police training, where he was exposed to all sorts of unusual situations and took them very well. However, although he is sound, he has some weakness behind, which raised concerns about his ability to withstand the demanding workload and prolonged work on tarmac required of a police horse. For that reason, he did not continue with the programme.
We are looking for a home where his workload suits him: enjoyable hacking, schooling and some lower-level jumping. His reason for leaving police training will be discussed openly with prospective buyers.
He is open to vet but struggles with hind limb flexions, sound in the school, on a circle and out hacking.
On the ground, Dom is every bit as lovely. Good to shoe, clip, catch and load, he has a kind nature and is a pleasure to have around. A big gentleman with plenty to offer someone looking for a sane, sensible horse to enjoy.
For sale on behalf of a client who needs something considerably smaller—Dom is rather a lot of horse!
