Poppy, a 2022 15.3HH Thoroughbred Mare.
Poppy is a lovely four-year-old bay Thoroughbred filly standing around 15.2–15.3hh. She is a particularly attractive, athletic young horse with a lovely way of going and plenty of potential for a career outside racing.
She has recently been retired from racing 100% sound, with no known injuries, lumps, bumps or stable vices. She is only being offered for sale as she hasn’t quite met her owners’ expectations on the track.
Poppy has only had two runs in bumpers, making her RoR eligible, and although she hasn’t raced over hurdles, she has had plenty of experience with pole work and has jumped barrels, logs and other obstacles. She has therefore already had a good introduction to jumping and has the foundations to progress nicely with further education.
She is a really lovely mover, with plenty of natural action and a tendency to flick her toes. We can easily see her catching the eye in the show ring, but she also has the athleticism and attitude to make a smart little eventing prospect.
Poppy is a genuinely happy, cheerful mare who enjoys life and is a pleasure to have around. She has lived out happily with both mares and geldings and is currently barefoot, although she is accustomed to being shod all round when in regular work.
She has been sold directly from the field simply because we haven’t had the time to get her going and show her what she can do. She will need some re-education and schooling as she starts her next chapter, so she would not be suited to a complete novice. With the right person and some time invested in her, we feel she could develop into a very smart and versatile riding horse.
A lovely young mare with plenty of potential, a great attitude and a whole new career waiting to be discovered.
