Bill (Sowermire Billy Joe) is an extremely genuine pony, he has been ridden over the past two years by my 12-year-old son, my 14-year-old daughter and hacked out by myself. He has also received professionally schooling on a weekly basis. He is a registered with the Dales Pony Society.
Despite being only 14hh, Bill is powerful, will take up the leg and rides as more of a small horse than a pony. Please don't be put off by his size, he has the presence to turn heads in a dressage arena and is a very comfortable and pleasing ride.
He is good to hack alone, or in company and safe in open spaces. He has been brought up around farm machinery so is not at all bothered by it and is very good in traffic. He has also hunted in his previous home and taken part in sponsored rides as a hirling.
Since we bought him as a 4 year old he has taken part in various activities including residential camps, pony club rallies and been part of NSEA and branch teams in dressage and showjumping. He represented his school team in the dressage at the Hickstead NSEA Championships in 2023 and the Pony Club Spring festival in 2024.
Although Bill is happy enough to turn his hoof to anything, we feel he is very talented and excels in the dressage and would therefore be suited for someone who wants to be competitive in this discipline. He enjoys jumping and has taken part in showjumping, eventer challenges and eventing, and is not phased by fillers, water, ditches, steps etc. However, he remains quite green in jumping competitions as we have not had the time to develop his potential in this area.
As he is still relatively young, Bill would not be suitable for a novice, however he would be ideal for a dressage/riding club home with an adult/older teenager looking to have some fun with him.
Bill is for sale as both of my children have become keener to event competitively at higher levels and moving onto horses. We believe that Bill’s talent would be wasted with us due to lack of time and would love to see him enjoy doing what he loves with someone else so that he can reach his full potential.
Over the winter, Bill has competed very successfully with my teenage daughter at British dressage, pony club and unaffiliated competitions. He has been consistently scoring high 60s/low 70s and has been placed inside the top three on every occasion.
At home, Bill has been training up to elementary with the help of a professional and at competitions we have been competing him up to prelim and novice level. As my daughter qualified for the Pony Club Spring Festival Championships at the end of February, he has not gained any BD points at novice level. However, on just two outings, Bill has gained 17 preliminary points.
Some of his recent results include:
VAH Pony Club show – 67.9% (2nd)
Pony Club Area 12 Spring festival qualifier – 69.8% (3rd)
Bury Farm Unaffiliated – 68.7% (2nd) 69% (2nd)
Brook Farm British Dressage ( My quest) – 66% (Prelim) (2nd), 66.8% (Novice) (2nd)
Cherwell British Dressage – 68.2% (2nd), 67.9% (1st)
VAH Pony Club show – 71.1% (2nd), 71.3% (1st)
Bury Farm British Dressage – 67.9% (2nd), 67.1%. (1st)
Up to date with farrier, dentist and vaccinations. Bill has strong feet and is barefoot. He is easy to do, lives in or out, good with the farrier and to clip. He happily travels in a lorry or trailer, is easy to load and exceptionally well behaved at shows. Never clingy, or nappy to other horses, can be turned out alone or in company. Healthy and sound and open to any vetting.
Tack available in separate negotiation.
