Thoroughbred Dressage Blog Introduction

Welcome to Thoroughbred Dressage!

Firstly a little about me…….

I am 27 years old and addicted and dedicated to my horses and my business. Horses are my life and always have been!

I graduated from University College London with a BSc in Architecture in July 2009.  After University I decided that I wanted to train with the best, and to progress as far as I could with my riding. So I packed my bags, and headed to Germany to work with triple gold medallist, now German Head Dressage Trainer, Monica Theodorescu. I also took my horse Glum along for the ride - we spent one year with Monica and came back competing at advanced level! Glum actually started life as one of the Queens racehorses, and is the reason that I went on to create Thoroughbred Dressage.

For the next three years I worked as Monica’s travelling groom, splitting my time between the UK, Germany and various locations around the world at wonderful International Horse Shows, which was an amazing experience.

In 2012 after returning home I was sent Quadrille, another former racehorse owned by the Queen. He joined Glum to parade at ‘All the Queens Horses’ Diamond Jubilee, which was an incredible experience and really showed how far the boys had come – from racehorses to dressage divas!

Through training with Monica the word soon spread about a girl who liked to turn racehorses into dressage horses, and in 2013 we had published articles in America’s leading dressage magazine, Dressage Today, and popular websites Off the Track Thoroughbreds and Euro Dressage.

Over the years I have attended multiple Under 21 Search for A Star Finals, Talent Spotting Finals, Young horse Classes, Regionals and Hickstead Masters Semi Finals at a variety of levels, all with my ex race horses. However I do ride a variety of horses, including Warmbloods, but my heart will always lie with the Thoroughbred’s!

Aims for 2014 and the future are; to see what happens! I would like to get my horses to the Regionals, and then to the Nationals in the summer, but if it doesn't happen, we keep on training and achieving small goals along the way.  With the support of my team, owners, and sponsors ( not forgetting my re homed bloodhound, Winston) anything is possible!

And finally, here are the stars of Thoroughbred Dressage and what make me, me!

Mister Glum
Stable name: Glum
Age: 20
Owner: HM The Queen

Glum is the reason Thoroughbred Dressage exists. I have had Glum for 14 years, and he has seen me through school, University, Germany and the setting up of my own business. Until September 2012 (due to his retirement) Glum was the highest competing ex racehorse on the UK Dressage circuit. He competed unto PSG level and competed at Premier League shows at Advanced/Advanced Medium level. In 2012 he paraded at ‘All the Queens Horses’ Diamond Jubilee with Quadrille. Glum roams the fields during the day and comes in at night. He looks after the young horses and is an absolute gentleman of a horse.

Quadrille
Stable Name: Quad
Age: 7
Owner: HM The Queen

Quadrille’s highlight as a race horse was finishing second at Royal Ascot. By Danehill Dancer out of Ficticious, this beautiful bay was a flat racer who ran seven times and won four of his races. Having left racing due to injury, it was decided that Quad would suit the dancing way of life. His dressage career so far has seen him in a two part training article in Dressage Today (US dressage magazine), parading in ‘ All the Queens Horses’ Diamond Jubilee 2012, finishing 3rd at the RoR Novice Finals 2013, Qualifying Novice Petplan Finals April 2014, qualifying for the British Dressage Winter Regional Finals at Novice and Elementary level. Quadrilles aims for 2014 are to qualify for Summer Regionals 2014 at Elementary and Winter Regionals 2014 at Medium level, with plans to go Advanced by 2015

Myster Lover
Stable Name: Chips
Age: 14
Owner: Thoroughbred Dressage

Previously a hurdler, Chips ran 6 times, each time not proving very successful! I re trained Chips straight off the track as a four year old, and he found a new home with a friend for eight years. But due to her travel commitments I bought Chips back in 2013, and he is now a fully fledged member of Team TB. Chips will remain as a schoolmaster for Team TB, in both flatwork and jumping.

Blank Space
Stable Name: Joli
Age: 18
Owner: Sally Mainland

Joli was never fast enough to make it to the track, so she was only ever in training and left as a four year old. Having found her dancing hooves later on in life, Joli joined Team TB in December 2013. I’m aiming her for Petplan Area qualification at Novice and Elementary, with the ultimate goal of qualifying her for the Regionals at Novice or even Elementary level
