DO YOU HAVE A HORSE OR PONY SUITABLE FOR THE RDA?

WANTED ON LONG TERM LOAN / PURCHASE

Ref #: 249896
  • If you think your equine has what it takes, please contact one of the groups below
  • If you think your equine has what it takes, please contact one of the groups below

One of the main issues that RDA groups face is finding an Equine to suit the needs of the participants in their group.

We are regularly contacted with offers of Equines that are ‘the ideal RDA horse or pony’ when actually what is ideal for one group may not be for the next. We are trying to move away from the stereotypical view that RDA Equines are elderly and somewhat static, our horses and ponies need to be fit, healthy and athletic to cope with the lifestyle in an RDA group.

They can range from smaller, forward going ponies to weight carrying cobs and can take part in a range of disciplines from Riding to Carriage Driving, Vaulting to Show Jumping and Endurance.

If you contact an RDA Group about your Equine please be prepared to fill in an Equine Initial Interest Form which will ask you many questions about your horses’ temperament, health history, experience and lifestyle. Many groups will prefer to have an equine on trial to make sure they are suitable for the job.

For long term loans and purchases they will also be required to have a Pre-Purchase Examination.

If you think your equine has what it takes, please contact one of the groups below.

14.1hh 20 year old JA for sale to a special home.

This is my daughter’s heart horse who has taught her so much, taking her from jumping 80/90cm right through to the bigger heights, including taking her round her first 1.20/1.25s.

However, it’s time for Harper to step down a little now, and teach another smaller rider how to ride competitively, ideally from 70/80/90cm to 1.05/1.10. He has so much to give yet to another rider.

Harper goes nicely on the flat and hacks alone. (Show name J Harper 001)

- Winner of the 2024 1m BS Winter Pony Championship
- 2nd in the 1.10m Grand Prix at POYS 2024

Harper also has numerous placings up to 1.15m at the 2025 Winter Pony Premiers, and a long list of more on his record.

Harper is a competition pony and would expect to be turned out daily, but not 24/7. As far as we know he has always been turned out alone, with neighbours in paddocks next door.

He is polite and is good to handle, shoe, clip, for dentist etc.

This pony means the world to his current jockey so we would be looking for a home where we can keep in touch and visit.

Please contact for more information. Based currently near Bishops Stortford/Stansted.

  • Companion to other youngsters

Queenie is a beautiful 2-year-old bay native mare, standing at 11hh. This curious and friendly youngster has already shown herself to be bright, people-orientated, and good with other ponies. She’s currently living in a mixed herd where she is confident, sociable, and happy to share food, making her a lovely pony to have around.

Still very young, Queenie is working on her groundwork and has made a great start. She is good to catch, will happily come over in the field, and leads nicely in different environments. She also picks up all four feet well and enjoys being groomed, showing how much she likes human interaction. She has been good for the vet during her health checks and is continuing to learn as she grows.

Due to her age, Queenie will need consistent, ongoing training and a patient home that can help guide her through her next stages of development. With time and the right home, she has the potential to make a lovely lead rein pony once she matures, but for now she would also be a sweet companion to other young ponies.

Queenie has a bright future ahead of her and is looking for a kind, knowledgeable home that can enjoy bringing on a youngster. In return, she promises to be a delightful little pony full of character and affection.

Merrylegs is a sweet 22-year-old grey mare standing at 12.2hh, looking for her forever home as a much-loved companion. Despite her age, she is bright, friendly, and easy to handle, making her a wonderful addition to any herd. She currently lives happily out 24/7 with her friends.

She is a delight to care for – good to catch, lead, groom, and have her feet picked up. Merrylegs is well-mannered for the farrier and vet, and she enjoys a pamper session with plenty of grooming.

As a companion-only pony, Merrylegs is searching for a quiet home where she can enjoy a relaxed lifestyle. She has a history of EMS, which is managed with diet alone. Currently, she maintains a good body condition on sparse grazing with a balancer to support her nutritional needs.

Gentle, reliable, and affectionate, Merrylegs would make a wonderful field friend and is sure to bring joy to her new family. Could you offer this lovely mare the safe and caring home she deserves?

  • Showing potential

Teddy is a charming 2-year-old 12hh chestnut native gelding who’s looking for a knowledgeable and loving home to continue his development. Brought to Blue Cross from a private owner as a minimally handled colt, Teddy has come a long way in a short time. He’s shown great potential as a future ridden or showing pony and thrives with regular, calm handling.

Since his arrival, Teddy has made impressive progress in his training. He’s now good to catch, leads well, and enjoys being groomed – even leaning in to show you where he wants a scratch! He is still learning about the world, so benefits from patient, consistent handlers who can build his confidence when he’s unsure. He's good with his feet, vet, and farrier (with some reassurance), and is loading well with ongoing travel training.

Due to his recent castration, Teddy is currently living in a gelding-only herd and should be matched with other young or tolerant horses who can handle his playful personality. He’s a social and tactile pony who is becoming more settled by the day in a structured environment.

With the right experienced adopter, Teddy has all the makings of a fantastic future ridden or showing pony. If you have the time, patience, and skill to guide Teddy through the next chapter of his journey, he will reward you with loyalty, personality, and a lot of fun.

For sale - I am very sad to have to offer our beautiful pony, Kiwi, for sale. This is through no fault of her own.

We purchased Kiwi for my daughter, and unfortunately, I just don't have the time to give, to help her reach her full potential.

Kiwi has been with us since September 2024 and is a beautifully marked piebald, cob, with full feathers and a dreamy long mane. She stands at around 12.2 and is about 7 years old (passported but no year stated - aged by dentist).

All vaccines, farrier, dentist and worming up to date.

Kiwi loves a hack; she is not a spooky pony and is great in traffic. She loves to pop a jump and is more go then woah.

She lives off fresh air. Is barefoot. Lives in or out. Good to catch and loads amazingly alone or in company.

Fantastic for the farrier and dentist. She is very easy to keep.

We currently have Kiwi with our 23 year old gelding with no problems.

Would suit a more confident rider as she is a 1.5/2nd, but very safe. Has never bucked or reared.

Please, no time wasters. More videos and photos can be sent.

Blue Cross Fairfax

  • Future kids project pony or companion
  • Happy to live out 24/7 or part stable
  • Lives with mares and geldings

Fairfax is a bright, inquisitive pony who is just beginning her journey of building trust with people. She’s naturally curious and enjoys investigating at her own pace, often approaching calmly in the field. While still cautious, she is responding well to regular, gentle handling and is starting to enjoy human interaction, especially when it includes a good scratch!

Due to her age she is still wearing a headcollar as part of her ongoing training, and she's currently learning the basics like being caught and having her feet picked up.

Fairfax copes well being stabled part-time with a companion and is currently living with another young mare. While she can become unsettled by food and finds multiple people in her space a little overwhelming, she’s learning to feel more comfortable with quiet, consistent routines.

Favour is a lovely, sensitive pony with huge potential. She will thrive in a home with experience, empathy, and a commitment to continuing her education at her pace.

We are happy to consider rehoming Fairfax and Favour as a pair of young ponies to be cared for until backing age. Alternatively they can be rehomed separately seeking new families.

Neena is the ideal companion for any home, she is easy to handle and enjoys a groom and a scratch. She is currently living in a small herd of mares and geldings. Due to Neena’s type, she does require restricted grazing and is currently living on a track system.

Can you offer Neena a loving home?
