Last in Line, known as George, is a charming 8-year-old Thoroughbred chestnut gelding with a lovely temperament and a willingness to learn.
George is an ex-racehorse and is RoR eligible, although he has not yet attended any classes or events. He competed in three races, with his last run in January 2024, but it became clear that racing was not his forte, as reflected in his race record. Since then, he has been in regular work and is showing real promise with his schooling. George is a quick and willing learner who enjoys having a job and responds well to guidance. We have also been having fun exploring natural horsemanship and liberty work, which he loves—he enjoys using his brain and engaging with new challenges. He has been with me since April 2024 and is only in his second home since birth (aside from his brief racing training), so he hasn’t been passed from home to home.
George is still a little unbalanced and green in his training, so he would be best suited to an experienced rider with the knowledge, patience and confidence to continue his education. He is a brave and willing horse, but he thrives on reassurance and takes a lot of confidence from his rider. At present, George is also schooled weekly by an experienced event rider who really enjoys working with him and would be happy to speak with prospective buyers about his progress. For those genuinely interested, I can provide a full discussion of his work, along with videos and photos to give a clear picture of how he is developing. He is available to view in excellent facilities where you can see him in work firsthand. Despite being green, George has mostly been ridden by me, essentially a novice and he has always been patient, kind, and looked after me, which says a great deal about his genuine and forgiving nature.
George is gent to catch, clip, with the farrier and he has recently had his teeth done. He is fully up to date with all vaccinations and his recent records are available to view. While with me, he has also received regular physiotherapy and saddle checks to ensure he is kept comfortable and well. The only area we have noticed some uncertainty is with loading—he has shown a little anxiety on occasion, though once on the box he settles quickly and travels and unloads calmly. His previous home did not experience this issue, so I believe it may simply be down to the change of environment and the fact that he hasn’t been loaded very often with me. As such, I cannot say with certainty whether it was just a one-off reaction or something that may need a bit more practice and reassurance going forward.
This is a genuinely heartbreaking sale, as I adore George, but I know I am not the right match for him. I don’t have the level of experience to bring out his full potential. He deserves a rider who can give him the time, training and reassurance he needs to truly flourish. I am in no rush to move him on—he is happy, settled and progressing well at our current yard—so we have the time to ensure he finds the very best situation. His wellbeing is my absolute priority and I will only consider a home that is truly right for him. As such he has been priced accordingly.
If you are an experienced rider seeking a kind, genuine horse with a lovely temperament and plenty of potential to bring on, George could be an ideal partner. With the right guidance, he has all the makings of a rewarding project—willing, intelligent and eager to learn. He will thrive with someone who can offer him patience, consistency and confidence, in return he has so much to give.
