Bodyguard Moorland - KWPN APPROVED stallion by Gribaldi x Negro x Cocktail. 2006, 17'1.
Bodyguard has an ideal pedigree for a stallion that will both perform in dressage and pass that ability on to his progeny, being closely related to both the Gold and Silver individual dressage medallists at the London Olympic. This is why -- as well as being a fully approved stallion with the KWPN the studbook has already awarded him the very impressive breeding value of 164 for dressage. He already has over 60 offspring in The Netherlands and Farina, a filly from his first crop in 2010 has already successfully completed her IBOP test with a high score despite being only 3 years of age, while another of his offspring Guard of Ginia made a very high price at the 2011 Star sale of Foals in the Netherlands in 2011.
Bodyguard’s pedigree is, of course, one of the main reasons for his success.
His Trakehner sire , the Grand Prix dressage horse Gribaldi is one of the most successful sire of dressage horses in the world today, having produced multiple Grand Prix dressage stallions approved across a wide range of studbooks. They include not only Hofrat (sire of the all-conquering Hotline) but also Painted Black and, of course, the phenomenal Totilas.
Gribaldi’s sire Kostolany is equally renowned as a source of dressage talent. The Grand Prix son of the legendary Ibikus his progeny include Showman, Sans Souci and Silvermoon (the sore in turn of the super mare Blue Hors Matinee.
On his dam’s side Bodyguard’s pedigree also exudes dressage talent. His dam Ulinda had a KWPN dressage breeding value of 159 (amazingly high for a mare) and as well as Bodyguard her offspring include the graded stallion Everest and a number of successful dressage horses and broodmares.
Ulinda’s sire the Advanced dressage horse Negro – one of the nearly 30 graded sons of Ferro -- needs no introduction to UK audiences as he is the sire of the all-conquering Olympic Gold medallist Valegro as well as 14 graded sons to date. This record has already accorded him a very high ranking in the international dressage sires list as Valegro won the WBFSH award foo top dressage horse of the year in the autumn of 2013.
Ulinda’s dam Kolinda contributes yet further dressage talent to the pedigree as she is by the top international dressage stallion Olympic Cocktail, sire of Jazz (sire in turn of over 30 graded sons including the much admired young dressage stallion Johnson and of the stunning Grand Prix dressage horse and Olympic silver medallist Parzival), Hucarlos and Havel. This is also the family from which the promising UK-bred stallion Woodlander Del Amitri hails and with dressage breeding value of 179 and a reliability score of 92% Cocktail’s input to the qualities that Bodyguard is already showing in abundance cannot be under estimated.
Bodyguard already has his own KWPN approved son, Guardian S and also the very successful Gladstone currently competing with Olympic para rider, Sophie Wells. Bodyguard himself was selected to competing internationally at small tour level in 2016 and 2017 and will soon be stepping out competing at Grand Prix level. Some of his young offspring can also be seen at Laras yard.
