I am putting my lovely boy up for long term/permanent loan due to having a young family and not enough time to do him justice anymore. As Spice is a young thoroughbred he would not be suitable for a novice and I want Spice to go to a 1st class, experienced home where he can continue to build on his retraining and education. Spice retired from the racetrack at 6 years old and ran 23 times. He then retrained at a showing yard where he completed prelim dressage, showing clinics and a novice ROR where he came second and was reserve champion. He came to me just before he turned 7 and I have focused on showjumping and cross country. Spice has competed at 70 cm in competitions and jumps larger at home and in training. I would still describe him as green and reliant on his rider. He has completed numerous fun rides, been to the beach and works well in a school. I have worked slowly with him to increase his confidence as he is not a horse you can rush and enjoys a calm and constructive partnership.
He loves to hack out and is brilliant on his own or with others, super in the heaviest of traffic and in the forest. He can sometimes spook at things that are always there, like drain covers and road markings so isn't 'bombproof. He has never reared, bucked or bolted with me but has sometimes reversed backwards if scared.
Spice loves to have a job and an active and varied routine which is something I cannot offer him now. He prefers 24 /7 turn out and does well through winters with good grazing.
Spice does have two quirks which are he is not always well behaved for the farrier when being shod behind so requires a calm and patient farrier. Secondly, he doesn't like a lot of fuss although I try. I would describe him as being a bit of a mare in this area. He is good to load and clip and has been brilliant for the physio and dentist. He is up to date with vaccinations and has no known medical needs.
I am looking for a patient and capable rider to build a 1:1 relationship with him. I would love him to stay in Cornwall if possible and watch him compete however an experienced and capable home is far more important to me than location. A range of references will be expected and future homes vetted to make sure he goes to the best possible person. I have lots of videos and photos of him that I can share with people who are interested.
