14.2 bay gelding, 14 year old New Forest pony. Based OX5 (15 mins out of Oxford). Mid 4s required, tack and rugs negotiable at extra. Honest advert.
Frodo has been hopelessly outgrown by his tall 14 year old jockey and is looking for his next postcode. Frodo took his current jockey from her 12.2 pony to jumping, hacking and schooling, whilst he is safe and more whoa than go he is NOT a first pony for a very new or very nervous rider, he will put in an occasional cheeky buck, normally when he’s finding schooling very boring, or when you’re asking him to gallop (he’s a lazy boy at heart). He takes his confidence from his rider. We feel he has lost his love for jumping and schooling so with this in mind we are ideally looking for a hacking/hunting home where he gets to do what he loves.
To hack- Frodo is good in open spaces, like most piggy ponies he will occasionally snatch for grass so needs a stronger rider or some grass reins. He can get a little nervous in traffic, for this reason he DOES NOT hack alone, in company we have found a confident squeeze forward and a pat is usually enough to keep him moving. He doesn’t get strong in open spaces and can usually be found right at the back of the pack
To school- Frodo has good basic schooling and a soft snaffle mouth. He needs plenty of leg to get him going but once he’s off he will trot round happily. He could do a sweet little test with a bit more schooling. He doesn’t love schooling every day and we don’t want him to go to a home that’s going to drill him in the school everyday.
To jump- Frodo has lost his love for showjumping but enjoys XC. He has previously hunted and we think he’d like to do this again. We will not be allowing him to go to a home looking to showjump him every weekend, he’d probably enjoy popping the odd small course for fun but absolutely not every weekend.
To do- Frodo is easy in every way, stands like a rock to be clipped and shod (currently has fronts), can take a minute to load but we haven’t had any real issues so long as you let him think about it (he goes on a trailer and 3.5t), travels like a dream, a pleasure to take out and about. He lives in or out and is good with other horses and ponies, he lives on fresh air and is sweet on the ground. He is up to date with teeth, feet, worming and chiropractor. Never been sick or sorry.
We are based OX5 with great trial facilities, videos/photos of everything can be seen, PLEASE no time wasters or tyre kickers, we have been very honest in the ad and this is an incredibly hard sale of much loved pony.
Open to vetting, inspections, instructors etc. We are in no rush to sell and have a specific type of home in mind for Frodo.
