Scarlett is a much-loved, 15.1hh 2013 bay mare who has been with us for 10 years. Only for sale as I have two young children and I can no longer give her the time and dedication she deserves. She has been the most enjoyable horse to own and is now seeking a new home where someone can enjoy her as much as we have.

Currently shared between myself and my mum, Scarlett was bought as an unhandled/unbroken project horse in 2016, and has been slowly and carefully produced by us. She has been our family horse and has been used mostly for leisure, flatwork and hacking.

She is a smart, trainable, and honest mare with a genuine desire to please.

She’s well-schooled and works in a soft, consistent outline with 3 established and balanced paces. She would do a lovely test for someone who enjoys dressage.

Snaffle-mouthed, light in the hand, and forward-thinking without being strong.

Scarlett is not a novice ride and requires a quiet and confident rider. She is intelligent and responsive but can be sensitive, so can look to her rider for reassurance. She has real potential to progress further in her training with someone who wants to step her up a level, in a knowledgeable and experienced home.

She has all the ability and attitude to succeed in the right hands. She’s done limited jumping with us and is still green, but has taken to it enthusiastically. Always been sensible when jumped - in capable hands I think she would enjoy doing more of this.

Scarlett is good to lunge and long-rein.

She hacks alone or in company, and is used to moderate traffic including buses and trams.

She is stabled on a working farm with tractors, cows and sheep etc.

She has done farm rides and some clinics — always well-behaved. Safe and sensible to ride in open spaces with a calm, confident rider. Scarlett is happiest in a consistent routine and thrives with regular work. She is not suited to life as a field ornament and is best suited to someone who wants to ride regularly.

Good to shoe, clip, bath, and handle — she is polite in and out of the stable. Loads and travels well (only travelled in a lorry so far). Not suitable for turnout with or next to geldings. Can be turned out alone or with other mares. Currently turned out during the day in summer in a private paddock, and stabled over winter.

Up to date with vaccinations and teeth, and saddler and physio both kept on a regular 6-month checkup. She’s fit, sound, and in regular work, with no vices and her full history known. Ready to go and be enjoyed! She had a single sarcoid removed in September 2024 (inside of her nearside hind leg), which healed without complication. No other sarcoid history and never sick or sorry.

This is an incredibly sad and difficult decision. We are looking for a 5* home where she’ll be truly loved. Genuine enquiries only, please — I would love to stay in touch and follow her journey.
