Ralph is one of those rare horses who genuinely looks after his rider. He has competed successfully up to 1.40m and is a talented, smart all-rounder with a wonderfully kind temperament. Unfazed by almost anything, he is equally happy looking after a novice rider or stepping up when asked by someone more experienced, he has a big bouncy Warmblood trott so real beginners may take a while to get use to that, he has a lovely armchair canter and moves well.

He is easy to handle in every way, great to catch, load, shoe great for the dentist. He has no ridden or stable vices, no ongoing medical issues or known allergies and is fully up to date with his feet, teeth, back and vaccinations.

Ralph turned 15 this month, and we have had three wonderful years with him. Sadly, increasing work and family commitments mean I can no longer give him the time he deserves, so this is a genuine sale.

Finding Ralph the right forever home is incredibly important to us. I think he would be a fantastic prospect for someone coming up from jumping ponies and looking for a horse who can take them up through the levels, while already knowing his job.

Equally, he would suit someone looking for a safe, sensible all-rounder to have some hassle-free fun with, or a more experienced/older rider who wants to do a bit of everything without needing to ride something that requires constant management. He comes with six years of medical history with no issues, and his previous owner remains in contact, and ideally we would like to do the same.

A very special horse to our family

We are a small, non-professional family who bought Providence as a future horse for our teenage daughter. Unfortunately, he clearly never received the memo about when to stop growing!

What started out as a horse for our daughter has developed into something rather spectacular. Despite knowing that he would eventually outgrow our original plans for him, we have continued to raise him with exactly the same love, investment and attention that we would have given our ‘forever horse’.

Our priority has always been to give him the best possible start in life — good handling, education, care and consistency throughout those important formative years.

He has grown into a truly magnificent horse: kind, curious, affectionate and full of character.

And, rather unexpectedly, very, very large!

Providence now stands approximately 17.3–18hh and has the presence and power that comes with being such a substantial young horse. He is very aware of his size and can be particularly assertive around food, so his next home must have an experienced, knowledgeable and confident handler who understands young horses of this size and will continue his education with clear, consistent and positive boundaries.

He is a gentle giant, but he is still a young horse learning about the world, and his size means that experienced handling is essential.

The right home is extremely important to us

We will not be selling Providence to just anyone. This is precisely why he is being offered privately rather than placed with a sales yard or auction.

We are prepared to wait for the right person and the right home.

We are looking for someone with the experience, confidence and facilities to continue developing such a large, talented young horse and, ultimately, to realise the enormous potential that we believe he has.

In an ideal world, we would love to stay in touch and receive the occasional update from his new owners. We have invested a huge amount of time, care and love into this horse, and although it is difficult to let him go, there is something incredibly exciting about imagining what his future could hold.

Seriously talented young event horse with huge potential. Produced professionally by a lightweight rider. Tango started his event career this year with great success, he always scores in the low 30s including a 25 at pontispool.

He’s quick and nimble across the ground making him a great jumper and has jumped up to 1.10 competing and 1.20 training shows. He also jumped two beautiful clear rounds at both badminton and Hartpury BYEH. He’s really taken to xc and is both bold and brave, while also being careful enough for the modern event horse, xc schooling round novice combinations quite happily and just jumped double clear and finished on his dressage at Aston 100.
