Starling – exceptional young mare with outstanding breeding, temperament and movement
Starling is a very special young mare who has everything you could want in a future competition horse or broodmare. She combines an exceptional performance pedigree with beautiful, extravagant movement, an affectionate temperament and a genuine desire to please.
She is athletic, intelligent, trainable and, most importantly, an absolute joy to work with.
Lightly backed and proving a delight to train and handle. Over the past two months Starling has been quietly and sympathetically introduced to work, including lunging over poles, long-reining, being sat on and walking around the arena. She has taken everything in her stride and has been responsive, willing and incredibly quick to learn.
She is well handled, good to trim and fully vaccinated.
Bred in the purple
Starling's pedigree is particularly exciting, combining some of the very best performance Thoroughbred, Irish and Warmblood bloodlines.
Her sire line comes through Langaller Starring Role, by SHB(GB) Elite stallion Catherston Dazzler, one of the UK's leading Eventing sires. His offspring have consistently competed and won at 4* level both nationally and internationally, including Midnight Dazzler, who finished 10th at Badminton in 2009. In 2012, his son Catherston Definitive won the BEF Eventing Championship.
Langaller Starring Role successfully combined his competition and stud careers, competing in British Eventingto Intermediate level and also hunting extensively. He has subsequently produced a remarkable number of show winners, County and National competitors, HOYS qualifiers, competition horses, riding club horses and hunters.
He is out of a mare by the great Thoroughbred stallion I'm A Star, giving Starling an outstanding foundation of proven performance bloodlines.
The dam side adds another exceptional dimension. Treliver Decanter is an Elite AES and BWBS graded 16.3hh palomino stallion by the legendary Dimaggio, renowned for his temperament, colour and international Grand Prix performance record. The line also includes Criminal Law, who has consistently produced quality sport and show horses.
An outstanding dam
Starling's dam is a lovely buckskin mare who I bought as a three-year-old. She was successfully evented and competed in dressage and has always possessed an exceptional temperament.
She is sound and still ridden regularly on Dartmoor, where she will tackle pretty much anything asked of her – over, through or around it!
