This is a truly heart breaking sale. Fred has been part of our family since he was a 4-year-old and my two daughters and I have each shared unforgettable moments with him. He is one of those rare horses who adapts effortlessly; kind, generous and always ready to give his best and has been like that from the start.
Originally purchased for my tall, competitive eldest daughter (then 15) to event, to continue her riding journey after ponies. However, when she decided to give up, I simply couldn't part with him, knowing my youngest would be onto horses soon enough. Instead, he and I enjoyed a wonderful season field mastering for the Bloodhounds, and he has joined me sporadically since. Only last week, after more than a year out of the saddle, he Field mastered and carried me safely and happily around some BE Novice hedges at Blindley Heath; the sort of day that reminds you just how special he is. I can get hunting references.
When my younger daughter came off ponies, although he was big and young for her, I always knew she would be safe on him and they could learn together as he is such a kind soul. Together they have grown in partnership, learning the ups and downs of the sport and having fun and fantastic success. They have had the normal blips competing that any young teenager would have but they are now consistently finishing top 10. He has been bought on slowly whilst he was still growing and strengthening and they have taught each other so much. They were selected to represent the South East Youth Squad at Bishop Burton in 2024 and have had many confident, consistent runs and placings at BE90, 100, 105 and now Novice level. He has had a quiet season this year due to GCSE's and a poorly/stressed jockey that really struggled at the first part of the year with many things un horse related and just did not need the pressure of competing.
Fred works beautifully on the flat and performs a lovely dressage test. Across country, he is brave and utterly reliable; a true machine. Show jumping has always been their most challenging phase (he never stops, he has had poles in the past) mainly due to small jockey on a big horse and learning this discipline is so different on a horse, but they now have consistent clears Show jumping.
Beyond eventing, Fred would equally excel as a dressage horse, or as an outstanding hunter or masters horse. He is bold and genuine over timber and hedges, clever on the ground, and always mannerly and happy to lead; the perfect mix of fun and dependability. A mother/daughter share of both eventing and hunting roles would also be a very realistic option.
Sadly, as every horse-loving family knows, these are the hardest decisions to make. Fred is only for sale as my daughter loves backing and producing and we have another one coming through, now at college, time/costs do not allow for competing more than one horse. Fred deserves a wonderful new home where he will continue to be loved (homes will be vetted), enjoyed and appreciated for the kind gentleman he is. He would be the perfect horse to teach a jockey coming off ponies and wanting to do U18's, 'no' is not in his vocabulary, he is safe, moves beautifully, is dependable but with enough about him to be fun. He has been ridden and produced by a competent teenager and so is forgiving and I would put him now in the 'school master' bracket. He stands out as a stunner where ever he goes! He is easy to do in all ways and is one who will be totally loved. He is safe for a teenager to handle and do entirely by themselves.
Endless photos and videos but everything is on my daughters insta..
He will only go to an exceptional, knowledgeable home.
