After 4 ½ wonderful years I have had to come to the incredibly sad decision to let my gorgeous Rupert lead a slightly quieter life. Roo's previous owner had him for 6 years, as once he has got in your heart it's hard to let him go!
Roo's wins are too numerous to mention every one of them, but some of the highlights include:
2015 TSR Southern Final Supreme Champion
2015 Ponies UK Dressage Final Supreme Champion
2016 Royal Windsor 5th in M&M Olympia qualifier
2016 South of England 6th in M&M HOYS qualifier
2016 Onley 5th in M&M Olympia Qualifier
2016 Ponies UK Amateur RIHS Final
2016 Onley TSR Finals Reserve Champion
2016 SWPA Dressage Supreme Championship
2016 Sunshine Tour Novice dressage champion (86%!)
2018 SWPA Novice Dressage to Music Champion
2018 Cricklands WHP Champion
2019 SSADL multiple first round wins and champions, and 3 top 6 placings in the SSADL Olympia Qualifiers
2019 Senior Champion then Supreme Champion
2019 SSADL Novice Dressage Final Winner (Championship show @Onley)
2019 SSADL Supreme Ridden Final – First Reserve Champion
2019 TSR members final Reserve Champion
I bought Roo to help me get my confidence back jumping so I could do the workers, and wanted something good enough to also do dressage and the Open M&M Classes. He has been absolutely perfect for all of these and more, and together we have achieved a level of success I never dreamed of!
We have developed a lovely relationship over the years, and he is very special to me. but I really want to do the open workers next year, and I think in his height category (up to 143) it is asking a bit much to do 85/90cm on a regular competitive basis at his age. But he has plenty more years left in him at the lower levels. So I have made the incredibly tough decision to find him a home where he can do for someone else what he has done for me over the last 4 ½ years.
I want to find him a home where we won't be asked to do more than about 70cm with someone who wants a competition pony to enjoy at the slightly lower levels, across multiple disciplines, where he can bring someone else as much fun and confidence as he has brought me!
He is a typical welsh, is his own person and plenty of character and cheek! He very much has that "look at me" attitude in the ring, which is why he does so well.
He doesn’t have a bad bone in his body. Never lifted a leg to anyone, great to clip, shoe, with traffic, loading etc. I ride him and lead my other boy on the roads regularly, but I also hack him in a group and on his own. He will quite happily stand for hours if being fussed / groomed! When my friends nieces come to stay there can be 4 of them in his stable fussing and grooming him and he stands like a rock enjoying every minute :-)
He is very well schooled, and pretty much push button. We always get high ride marks for our individual show. He is light in the hand and his downward transitions come totally from the seat, and he does walk to canter with ease. He loves to work and just isn't the sort of pony you could "retire in a field". His is a very bright pony and likes variety in his work! I don’t ride him in the school more than twice a week maximum, once a week jump and the rest hacking unless we are competing. He isn't the sort of pony you could drill in a school, as he would just switch off and not enjoy it anymore.
With Rupert is the opportunity to own a top class pony, but home is of utmost importance to me, and as his last owner entrusted him to me, I have a moral & personal obligation to ensure he goes to the best home, where his future is assured and he will be loved like part of the family. As such I want to be sure anyone that comes to see him, wants him warts and all!
At shows he can be clingy if travelled with another and not want to be separated. At feed times he is a door banger, so comes with a Kentucky door stable kick pad! He can occasionally be sharp if fresh, but nothing nasty, just the odd cheeky playful bucks every now and again. He can be strong out hacking if ridden behind, so I hack him in a pelham, but he does schooling, dressage and jumping in a snaffle.
Roo had to have surgery in early 2017 for a fetlock injury, but made a fantastic recovery and was back competing by the end of the year. It gives him no issues now and has healed so well you can barely even see where it was.
Although completely sound Roo would not pass a flexion test due to the surgery, but of course could be vetted. I am also happy for you to discuss anything with my vet who sees him regularly as she also is our yard equine chiropractor.
