Proud breeders of genuine, versatile horses with talent, temperament, trainability and true beauty.

We aim to breed beautiful horses of  quality who prove versatile, capable and willing whatever the discipline; when they bring the happiness and pride to their owners that we have built our reputation on and are a pleasure to deal with in all ways..... We have achieved what we set out to do.

From day one our horses are cared for and treated as individuals with careful attention to nutrition, handling, health and happiness. We are not a hobby stud, GFS is a dedicated stud of excellent reputation breeding warmblood sporthorses of physical quality, proven competition bloodlines, exceptional temperament and true versatility for both amateur and professional riders.  As such our full focus is on producing young horses correctly and in a professional environment that is beneficial to their physical and mental wellbeing. We are now based in Devon and our new home has outstanding facilities for both rearing youngstock on lush, well fenced pastures with room to gallop and play in herds as nature intended.  Our breeding program is one that has been carefully developed in line with exactly what we intend to breed and consistent in the type and character that we strive to produce. Our stallions are on site and always delighted to meet and greet visitors. Very often we also have the grand dams and or sires here too as well as similarly bred youngstock from which to judge in accordance with our breeding goals.

We hope you can find everything you were hoping to to discover about the Stud and our horses on these pages -  If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact us at gfssporthorses@gmail.com.

We are always happy to answer initial queries by email but ultimately prefer the more personal telephone call instead of batting questions to and fro over many days!

  • I am regretfully offering this tall, imposing mare for sale to a breeding home wanting to produce exciting and talented jumping horses.

Originally purchased as a broodmare, she sadly lost her beautiful palomino colt foal this year but has been returned back in foal to the same stallion, taking first time.

She has been scanned with a live heartbeat and is in foal to the AES Graded perlino leopard spot stallion GFS Fire and Ice for a dilute 2022 foal who will have a 50% chance of a spotted pattern too! This breeding was planned to breed a future eventer with speed, scope, stamina and spectacular colour.

Tigger is six years old and stands at approx 17hh. She is vice free, easy to catch, mannerly with the farrier. She has lovely stable manners and although she enjoys her stable during the winter, she would happily live out with a rug. Tigger is a big powerful mare and although she has absolutely no malice and loves both the company and attention of people, she is not for an inexperienced owner as she is big, young and spirited.

She is up to date on vaccinations, teeth, feet, worming and is in excellent health.

She is in foal for a 2022 foal guaranteed to be dilute and with a 50% chance of a spotted coat pattern!

This lovely mare is by Sligo Candy Boy, an Outstanding Irish Sports Horse Stallion By Balou De Rouet who has sired many exciting competition horses in Ireland competing in all three disciplines and whose young stock are starting to come out under saddle in competition and proving to be talented and hugely athletic. The Irish Sports Horse Society describe him during his second stage assessments as “…a very attractive modern sport horse. He has a quality in all paces with a light balanced canter. When jumping he has excellent reflexes, with good bascule....he shows ample scope and looks very careful, obedient, responsive and willing.”

Balou de Rouet, his Sire, is a consistently popular stallion with an excellent temperament and movement with a powerful jump. In 2013, the year of Sligo Candy Boy’s Stallion testing in Ireland, Balou De Rouet was ranked 77 (WBFSH stallion list) in the world and the following year made a meteoric rise to 36th due to the successes of his offspring.

This mare's dam was by the absolutely legendary Sea Crest of the Hartwell Stud.  Sea Crest was a very successful Grade A Show jumper Ridden by Edward Doyle In the 1980's winning numerous National Grand Prix's, and was unbeatable on the indoor circuit. He sired many International Show jumpers and Eventers Including the inimitable character and extraordinarily talented  Cruising CSIO5* WEG, European champion ships, nations cups and winner of many Grand Prix's including Aachen CSI5* , Lenamore CCI4* & Olympics 2012.

The sire of this foal is the young perlino leopard spot stallion GFS Fire and Ice, Graded with the AES he is out of a Rock King mare whose dam sire was the great Bohemond. More information on this super stallion and his pedigree can be found on our website (address given).

Spectacular Event/SJ/Dressage Prospect

This colt is superb, we could watch him moving all day long! He really does have the most spectacular trot, a big loose stride at the walk with a big overtrack and at speed he is like lightening, streaking across the paddock. He has a big personality, a lot of energy and is an absolute beauty to behold.

This is the fourth foal that we have bred with this particular stallion and mare, with very good reason!  This pairing has produced three exceptional foals to date, one with a professional eventer and the other purchased by a fellow breeder in the US to be professionally produced as a show hunter. I did retain his full brother last year in the hope of running him on as a future stallion but regretfully I decided that he was just too interested in the ladies from such an early age that he was subsequently gelded and sold to a fantastic home where he will eventually be produced for jumping and eventing.

These foals have all shared an exceptional beauty and a magnetic presence that cannot help but draw admiring glances. They tend to be super intelligent, powerful, fast and fluid through all paces; incredibly supple, expressive in each gait and light on their feet; utter poetry in motion!

For the serious amateur or professional the horses from this breeding are bursting with talent and the type of sensitivity that make them completely in tune with their riders and a keen wish to bond with those they trust.

They are as fast as lightning, a joy to watch float across the arena and without a doubt balanced and brave enough to tackle any cross country course with the right training or indeed any other equestrian disciple where  talent, willingness to perform and style are requisite.

As with their dam and to an extent their sire, they tend to be one person horses who thrive on developing a true one on one relationship, however this young man is everybody's friend and a confident little show off of the highest order! His dam Neforia is a Graded Ster KWPN mare by the dressage stallion San Remo, campaigned by Edward Gall and whose female progeny number more than seven Ster Preferent. Her damline is exceptional, her dam is an an Elite GP dressage mare by Haarlem.

This foal will be a very interesting an exciting prospect for someone interested in a serious future, excelling in either dressage or eventing and looking for a partner of a lifetime with whom they can to foster an extraordinary relationship.

His sire GFS Lord of the Dance has proven himself a prolific producer of real potential competitive offspring who have attracted the attention of both the ambitious amateur and professionals. They are just starting to come out under saddle and we will soon be filling our news pages with tales of their sporting endeavours!

The stunning and charismatic GFS Lord of the Dance is a young AES Graded stallion with unique breeding in the UK, his sire was a rare and highly bred Russian Trakehner x Akhal Teke who we imported as a yearling from Estonia. His breeding was of of high performance with a pedigree listing remarkable horses who performed at the highest levels in all disciplines, including endurance. GFS Lord of the Dance is a proven improver of mares and producer of top quality offspring with enormous talent and potential under saddle. His youngstock have been very popular with eventers and are starting to appear under saddle and likely to making their first forays into the competitive arena shortly as they come of age.
He has a Graded son already in the US, one of three who have been snapped up internationally. GFS Mikado is now on a professional yard and on the cusp of commencing a very exciting competitive career. GFS Bodacious's full sister was also snapped up by a buyer in the US to be produced for eventing.

There is much information on GFS Lord of the Dance on his page. However, adding to that he is just the softest sweetest and most beautiful young stallion. His bloodlines are of rare and lauded Russian Trakehner, Akhal Teke and TB ancestry and his impact on the offspring of the mares he covers is of improvement both physically and mentally as well as imparting great beauty, elegance and loyalty.

Keeping this remarkable colt is still high on my list of  temptations!

To make approx 17hh, this colt has got the X factor plus! He has the most beautiful head, superb conformation and a brain that is quick, kind and willing.

If I had not retained his full brother, GFS Illuminati last year and who will be run on as a future stallion prospect, this exceptional young horse would be staying, and if his outstanding dam had not tragically passed away this year, this would be a repeat breeding that would be as compelling and as natural as this heavenly combination of bloodlines.

His breeding very much points towards a career as a show jumper or eventer, but his walk, trot and canter are also great indicators of a young horse who would also make an excellent choice for an owner wanting to produce their own youngster for a career between the boards!

Aside from being staggeringly beautiful, GFS Alchemy has a super temperament, brave, calm and friendly demeanour.  He is incredibly quick to learn, he has a big character, a bold nature and a gentle soul but he is a horse who has been bred to compete and will be best suited to a life of interesting work with an experienced and ambitious rider looking to compete at the higher levels.

His Westphalian Graded dam (Hogwart x Chemintz/Lord Caletto) competed to 1.20 and video of her jumping can be seen on our website.

His sire the young AES Graded stallion GFS Eskimo Jo whose foals both last year and this have been incredibly exciting. His sire is currently competing Novice level BE with both the scope and talent to progress! AES Graded Paddy of Liosin, his bloodlines are predominantly of show jumping providence. His sire is Crown's Ace of Pearl a stallion who has been campaigned extensively as show jumper, dressage and eventer, he is by the ZfdP International GP show jumping stallion, Crown's Blue Pearl. A horse bred from the rare and multi talented Kinsky breeding program and infused with high performance thoroughbred bloodlines. The German stallion A-Dur compliments this impressive jumping providence.

Paddy's dam is by Olympic Lux (Lux Z/Lord Calando/Ahorn Z x ?Ahorn/Nimmerdor/Vicomte Grandieux), the KWPN stallion and prolific sire of of over 15 show jumpers and 15 eventers, all competing at top level. His sire, Lux Z has made an enormous impact on Holsteiner sports breeding. As well as being an Olympic show jumper he has sired over 60 show jumpers and significant numbers of both eventers and dressage horses.

Eskimo Jo's dam, N-She's All, a Head Stud Book and premium graded Holsteiner is 100% jump bred. Her sire, Corrado is yet another Olympian with over 120 show jumping progeny to date. He is considered as the founder of a Holsteiner sire line of his own! In his stallion performance test he scored an unprecedented 10 for both his loose jump and that under saddle.

Corrado is by Cor de la Bryere, a stallion that revolutionised the jumping horses' breeding. He too had an incredible impact in Holsteiner and he occurs in more than 80% of the top performance pedigrees as well as being credited with improving the breed's jumping technique. His sire Rantzau was from 1971-1973 the leading sire of dressage horses, show jumpers and event horses in France. He is regarded as the best thoroughbred stallion who ever entered the French sport horse breeding industry.

Corrado's dam, Soleil was a Nations Cup eventer and was herself by the extraordinary jumper, Capitol I, a stallion known to have 'put wings' on a legion of offspring. It is thanks to his influence that the Cottage Son xx line became one of the most influential thoroughbred infusions in Holstein breeding.

Holsatia IX, 'Mojo's' dams dam, was by the show jumping Olympian/World Championship stallion Landgraf I. Labeled by many as the 'stallion of the Century'. Immortalised in bronze at Elmshorn where he stands as the symbol of the modern Holsteiner Sport Horse. Her dam, Wicke III was by Caletto II (a son of Cor de a Bryere).

This really lovely looking chestnut colt has enormous presence and absolutely super conformation with all the obvious attributes of a real athlete; bred very much with eventing in mind, he also demonstrates a definite leaning towards a potential dressage career too due to his style in movement, the immense power and perfect balance that comes so naturally to him. His trot in particular is a real show stopper; uphill, expressive and rhythmic. He has a really lovely canter and a big striding and purposeful walk.

To make in excess of 16.2hh, with strong, correct conformation and astoundingly good looks. He has a superb nature and is both friendly and a relaxed character with a sensible attitude and a highly attuned brain with an aptitude for understanding what is being asked without panic or protest and willingness to work with you. He shows a maturity beyond his years.

His dam is a very tall, elegant blood type mare who has a really fantastic ground covering trot, big walk and the gallop of a born eventer.  She is by Treliver Decanter and out of an Elite Graded SH(GB) mare by the Saddlers Wells bred stallion Accondy.  Her dam sire is World Cup, the GP dressage stallion and sire of many top dressage horses.

GFS Sirocco’s sire the young AES stallion GFS Eskimo Jo whose pedigree is a super amalgamation of big traditional Holsteiner breeding coupled with the more modern sporthorse type.  He has unfortunately not been competed due to a fractured stifle as a youngster but he hails from superb performance breeding with a distinct leaning towards jumping but no lack of talent in each of the Olympic disciplines and a premium stamp on temperament.
His sire is Paddy of Liosin (Crown's Ace of Pearl x Olympic Lux/Lux Z) who is currently competing at BE Novice.
His damsire, Corrado, as with Lux Z is yet another Olympian with over 120 show jumping progeny to date. He is considered as the founder of a Holsteiner sire line of his own!  In his stallion performance test he scored an unprecedented 10 for both his loose jump and that under saddle.
Corrado is by Cor de la Bryere, a stallion that revolutionised the jumping horses' breeding. I have always aimed to breed horses that are capable of any job but who would show particular talent as an eventer in time as to me that is the epitome of an all round athlete and one capable of anything asked of them throughout their ridden career. This colt is eminently capable of performing in any arena and with great aplomb. He has exceptionally strong bloodlines which have proven capabilities, well above average in all three disciplines. As well as this he is a genuinely lovely character who will doubtless be a joy to work with, own and compete.

There is some serious jumping talent to be found in this filly's pedigree and her dam Zievident is a mare of superb damline who has already produced a very exciting young eventer who had gained 64 BE points before by six years old and is now currently being competed by Ibble Watson. Her maternal half sister will shortly be following her career trajectory in the same very capable hands!

This lovely looking filly is a tremendously strong and athletic yearling with a big trot, lovely uphill, balanced canter and a ground covering gallop.

She is bred to compete and whether it is to show jump, event or even perhaps in dressage, she will present a very exciting prospect for anyone looking to produce a young horse with the ambition of to aiming high!
