“Buddy” – Outstanding 4-Year-Old Purebred Connemara Gelding – 15.1hh and Still Growing

A beautifully mannered, straightforward Connemara gelding. Quiet, easy, and a pleasure in every way. A quality type with an exceptional temperament.

Meet Buddy, our truly exceptional 4-year-old purebred Connemara gelding, currently standing at a well-grown 15.1hh with more height and plenty of quality still to come. Buddy is the kind of pony that turns heads wherever he goes – a real leg-in-each-corner type, with substance, presence, and the sort of temperament that makes him a dream to produce. He has all the hallmark qualities of the Connemara breed: scope, heart, brains, and that all-important quiet nature.

From the minute you sit on Buddy, you know you’re on something special. He rides beautifully off a soft snaffle contact, working in a natural rhythm and balance well beyond his years. He’s extremely well-schooled for his age and shows maturity in both his flatwork and jumping. He’s responsive without being sharp, forward-thinking but never silly, and always tries his best to understand what’s being asked of him. He has three quality paces, a soft and rhythmical trot, a balanced uphill canter, and a very correct walk. Buddy is the type that always wants to please – he’s very trainable, kind, and genuinely enjoys his work.

Over the summer, Buddy has already started to make his mark in the show ring and out hunting. He competed successfully in a number of Connemara show classes and working hunter classes, where his rideability and ring presence earned him great results, including 2nd place at Charleville Show in the 4- & 5-Year-Old Ridden Class – a real achievement in a strong class of quality ponies. He has also competed at training shows and is no stranger to a full day out, having already completed a full season’s hunting, where he proved to be mannerly, brave, and a real pleasure to ride across country.

When it comes to jumping, Buddy is quiet, confident, and careful. He has a naturally good technique and plenty of scope – he’s been comfortably jumping up to 1m here, and he free-jumps 1.20m with ease. He shows a lot of promise both over showjumps and across country fences. Cross-country is where Buddy really shines – he’s brave, straight, and honest, making him a super candidate for grassroots eventing or working hunter pony classes. He never says no, takes everything in his stride, and always gives his rider a confident, safe feel to a fence.

One of Buddy’s standout features is his temperament. He is very quiet, both on the ground and under saddle. He is the same pony every day – whether he’s been ridden every day that week or pulled in from the field after a few days off. He is straightforward to catch, box, shoe, hack, and handle in every way. He hacks out alone or in company, is good in traffic, and isn’t fazed by farm machinery, dogs, or any of the usual countryside commotion. He is good to travel, settles in new places without fuss, and has no stable vices. He’s a total gentleman to have on the yard and is a firm favourite with everyone who handles him.

Buddy is quiet enough for a novice, making him a lovely option for a mother-daughter share, a Pony Club or Riding Club home, or even a riding school looking for a quality horse to add to their string. Equally, with his looks, talent, and trainability, he would be right at home in a more competitive setting – he’s the sort that will happily turn his hoof to anything you ask of him and do it all with a smile on his face.

QUEENIE – The Ultimate Irish Sport Horse Mare for Dressage, eventing or Showjumping

Standing at 16.1hh, Queenie is a striking six-year-old black Irish Sport Horse mare with the kind of presence that turns heads wherever she goes. Her breeding combines the best of Irish Draught substance with the lighter blood of the modern sport horse, producing a mare that’s both brave and clever, forward-thinking yet completely sane – a golden mix for any rider wanting a genuine all-rounder with scope, quality and kindness.Shes out of a proper traditional Irish Sport Horse mare by the renowned Irish Draught sire Flagmount King, Queenie boasts bloodlines that are steeped in performance and good sense. She is by the sought-after stallion Spirit House, and

She’s the very picture of traditional Irish breeding – substantial yet elegant, with bone in all the right places, a kind and intelligent eye, and that rare mix of athleticism and trainability that’s becoming harder to find. A real model of her type, Queenie has been blessed with textbook conformation, a gleaming dark coat, and a temperament to die for.

She would be a dream horse for a teenager wanting to move up the levels, a mother-daughter share, a top-end riding school or training centre looking for a quality schoolmaster-type, or even a competitive amateur home wanting a ready-made partner to get out and go with. She has no stable vices, is sound and open to any vetting.

We purchased Queenie from her breeder, she has done a wide range of activities, including hunting, charity rides, unaffiliated competitions and hunter trials. She has seen a bit of everything, and that foundation has clearly given her a steady and well-rounded outlook. She is taking everything in her stride – she is a pleasure in every way, a level-headed, adaptable, and generous horse, ready to crack on with any job asked of her.

Queenie is utterly quiet in every way. She’s quiet to handle both in and out of the stable – you can shoe her, load her, catch her from the field with no fuss at all. She hacks out confidently, alone or in company, and is good with all manner of traffic, including tractors and lorries. She doesn’t stress in new environments, settles straight in, and always shows up ready to work. She is a genuine people-pleaser – always trying her best, always with her ears forward, always a kind soul to have around.

On the flat, Queenie is a delight. She is beautifully schooled with a soft, natural outline and obedient to the aids. Her three paces are balanced and expressive: a rhythmical walk, an elevated, floating trot that’s a joy to sit to, and a naturally uphill, balanced canter with real cadence. She offers an easy ride to any level of rider – responsive yet relaxed, never sharp, never tense. She’s currently being ridden by a petite young girl, showcasing just how rideable she is, even for those stepping up from ponies or needing a confidence-giving partner to develop with.

Her presence, rideability, and natural movement will make her stand out in any dressage arena — she’s the type of horse who draws the judge’s eye the moment she enters at A. Whether you’re looking to produce a test-ready dressage partner or want something with enough quality to develop up the levels, Queenie has all the ingredients to shine.

When it comes to jumping, Queenie is nothing short of exceptional. She is careful, brave and always wants to get to the other side. She’s jumped up to 1.15m here with plenty more in the tank, making her an ideal candidate for Riding Club or Pony Club teams, or even for someone looking to go affiliated and climb the levels with a solid, trustworthy horse underneath them. She gives her rider a fantastic feeling into a fence – rhythmical, straight and steady without rushing or pulling – and she has that golden quality of being able to get herself out of trouble if the stride’s not quite right. She’s forgiving and reliable, making her a real confidence builder for someone wanting to learn or progress.

Take her across the country and she comes into her own even more. Queenie lives for cross-country – brave, straight and honest as the day is long. She’s schooled over a variety of tracks and fences, including ditches, water, steps, skinnies and combinations. She locks on, listens, and sails over without hesitation. She doesn’t get silly or strong and is always rideable between the fences – an absolute machine in the field, but always in control. She’s the sort that makes you smile from start box to finish flags.

But Queenie isn’t just an athlete – she’s a true lady, too. She has the sweetest nature you could hope for in a horse. She’s affectionate, loves fuss and attention, and has a calming energy that makes her a joy to be around. She’s a horse that greets you at the stable door with a nicker, stands like a rock for grooming and tacking up, and simply makes life easier with her good manners and willing attitude.

She’s equally at ease out on the open road, happily hacking alone or in company. She’s even enjoyed jaunts to the beach, breezing through waves with a calm confidence that speaks volumes about her character.

On her dam side, Annie descends from Calla Boy, another influential Connemara stallion (born circa 1976, grey), sired by Dun Aengus and out of Sliabh na mBan II. Stallions like Calla Boy’s descendants, such as Mulroy Bay, trace lineage back to this line—valuable for preserving genetic diversity.

To talk more, call anytime on +353 86 807 7626, or email me at gertytynan@gmail.com. Annie is ready for her next chapter—perhaps with you?
