You know when parents respond to your ad and seek a pony that their 4 year old can ride down the M1, backwards, whist being chased by mid-spin washing machine and a brass band? Oh and they also want it to be of sufficient quality to show at the highest level as well as a performing seal, AND mother Teresa reincarnated ?!
Fear not - we don’t suggest taking up another hobby here ! Because this boy REALLY is a little Shetland nugget sent from god himself. And on his way down, he also managed to hit the ‘extreme good looks tree’ …
Professionally broken at the end of his third year; Squiggles has had a fun winter of hound exercise, in addition to taking part in several children’s meets … this year, he has since done everything else in between .. beach, hacking, showing, pleasure rides, fancy dress, Concours d’elegance, and some poles on the ground. Absolute gold dust sort who always has happy ears and a smile on his face. I would trust this pony with the tiniest tot both on the ground and under saddle.
Rock steady in any environment, doesn’t need plugs/calmers, doesn’t need any working in at shows. Happy with hounds underfoot, quads behind and in howling wind or sideways rain. Happy to be alone or in company in any environment. No quirks or vices, and never sick or sorry. Always in the ribbons wherever he goes and was 6th in his first ever HOYS attempt this year at Stoneleigh in horrific rain. Has also had several overall championships in hand in the breed classes.
Squiggles recently returned from a loan where he has built a 7 year old girls confidence just off the lead rein. She has gone from being nervous to confidently riding alone and trying some assisted FR classes at NPS champs, all with the biggest smile on her face.
At home my 4 year old daughter can do everything with him totally autonomously and can easily manoeuvre him around under saddle. She loves plodding him around the showgrounds after her class and sharing an ice cream. He is perfect for young handler classes for tiny tots, happy to be led around anywhere and is great at standing still.
He lives on a farm where he considers himself to be a shepherd of various asbo animals and livestock! Grooms the pigs, not bothered if a chicken hops on his back … I can think of nothing else to cover !
Out in groups he will carry on safely while others are passing and pull up easily, doesn’t get hot or silly, doesn’t join in when other horses have a ‘moment’, has been known to give a lead to big horses across water when everyone was beside themselves crossing a ford … and generally just enjoys himself and his surroundings at a steady pace. He also leads happily from our hunter.
Countless people can vouch for this pony and references are absolutely available - he truly is a hens tooth.
Hundreds of pics/videos available to seriously interested parties. If you want a dead cert to take your child along safely at any job then he’s your man.
Can be seen and tried at Concours Champs at Onley 27th September
