Rio, registered as Pharly’s Crown Ramiro (GB), is an extremely smart 17.3hh, 6-year-old bay gelding. He is a quality British Sport Horse by Ramiro B, with plenty of substance, presence and athletic ability.
Rio is homebred and only being offered for sale because he has simply grown too big for his 5ft 2in rider. This is a genuine sale of a much-loved horse who is available through absolutely no fault of his own.
Rio possesses the rare combination of size, presence, temperament and trainability required for a police horse. He is exceptionally sensible, brave and unflappable, with a calm, willing outlook and no sharpness. He doesn’t look for trouble, thinks through new situations and takes everything in his stride.
He is completely vice-free, kind, genuine and exceptionally straightforward. Despite his impressive size, he is uncomplicated and easy to have around. Rio loves being brushed and fussed and genuinely enjoys spending time with people. He loads beautifully into both a lorry and trailer and is straightforward to take away from home.
His temperament really is his greatest quality. Rio has the physical presence needed for police work, combined with an honest, dependable nature and a genuine willingness to please. He remains calm in unfamiliar surroundings and has attended a number of shows and cross-country schooling trips, taking each new experience in his stride.
He hacks happily alone or in company, will go first or last and has been excellent in all types of traffic. Cars, tractors and busy situations do not bother him, and he remains calm and level-headed wherever he goes. His confidence in traffic, lack of sharpness and sensible attitude make him a particularly exciting police horse prospect.
Rio is ridden in a snaffle for everything. He is beautifully light in the hand and responsive from the leg without being sharp or quick. He gives his rider a lovely, enjoyable feel and combines excellent rideability with the athleticism required for a competitive career.
He is currently jumping confidently around 90cm and is proving to be exceptionally brave, careful and honest. Rio does not need to meet every fence on a perfect stride and will make a genuine effort to help his rider, happily jumping from whatever stride he arrives on. He has a natural technique and plenty of scope to progress well beyond his current level.
His honesty, power and athletic ability also make him a genuinely exciting prospect for pure showjumping or eventing. He has attended a number of shows and has been cross-country schooling, gaining valuable experience away from home while continuing to show the same sensible and willing attitude.
With his size, presence, bravery and excellent manners, Rio also has all the attributes required to make an outstanding gentleman’s hunter. He would give someone a tremendous amount of horse while still offering a sensible, enjoyable and straightforward ride.
