Increasing numbers of internet advertisers are receiving emails from bogus buyers, attempting to scam sellers.

This tactic is a worldwide problem so we really appreciate our customer keeping us upto date and informed on any suspicious emails that they receive.

August 2020 - We have been informed of a "James Tom" jamesstoreparts@gmail.com who have been emailing advertisers asking for their best price, saying it is a gift for his wife and that the payment will be made by his client by 'England Cashier's Check.' Please ignore this email and if you have time report it to Action Fraud- https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/

September 2019 - We have been informed of a "Frank Thomas" frankthomas2930@gmail.com and a "Steven Rocker" stevenrocker1986@gmail.com who have been emailing advertisers asking for their best price, they reply to say they are happy with the price and can you mark the advert as sold and they will send a bank cheque. Please ignore this email and if you have time report it to Action Fraud- https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/

We've been informed of a email scam commonly coming from a "Martha Gough" marthagough011@gmail.com and "Mary Susan" with an outlook email address, asking a list of questions & offering to transfer a deposit and an over payment for shipping. Please ignore this email and if you have time report it to Action Fraud- https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/ . For more details of the over payment scam please click HERE

These scams can vary, however emails are often written in broken English and in an over friendly style. Advice from Action Fraud is to cease corresponding and report it via their website https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/.

Some advice to help you avoid being caught out:

  • Do not deal with buyers proposing to transfer more money than required
  • Always try to speak to the buyer on the phone, and ideally meet them in person!
  • Always ask for the buyers full name, telephone number, and address
  • Steer clear of money transfer services / bank transfers, instead, opt for a safer alternative ie PayPal
  • Keep a paper trail and always get a receipt

We are always here to help, so please give our team a call if you have any queries or concerns
