DO YOU HAVE A HORSE OR PONY SUITABLE FOR THE RDA?

WANTED ON LONG TERM LOAN / PURCHASE

Ref #: 249896
  • If you think your equine has what it takes, please contact one of the groups below
  • If you think your equine has what it takes, please contact one of the groups below

One of the main issues that RDA groups face is finding an Equine to suit the needs of the participants in their group.

We are regularly contacted with offers of Equines that are ‘the ideal RDA horse or pony’ when actually what is ideal for one group may not be for the next. We are trying to move away from the stereotypical view that RDA Equines are elderly and somewhat static, our horses and ponies need to be fit, healthy and athletic to cope with the lifestyle in an RDA group.

They can range from smaller, forward going ponies to weight carrying cobs and can take part in a range of disciplines from Riding to Carriage Driving, Vaulting to Show Jumping and Endurance.

If you contact an RDA Group about your Equine please be prepared to fill in an Equine Initial Interest Form which will ask you many questions about your horses’ temperament, health history, experience and lifestyle. Many groups will prefer to have an equine on trial to make sure they are suitable for the job.

For long term loans and purchases they will also be required to have a Pre-Purchase Examination.

If you think your equine has what it takes, please contact one of the groups below.

For Lease - competition/pony club pony

Ref #: 380473
  • Looking for a fun, experienced, kind lease home

  • Looking for a fun, experienced, kind lease home
  • A kind, straightforward mare who enjoys her work

Looking for a fun, experienced, kind lease home for my lovely girl Jasmine whilst I’m away at vet school.

I’ve had Jasmine since she was 3, having recently come across from Ireland. I backed her myself and we’ve enjoyed learning about the world together. Jasmine is a kind, straightforward mare who enjoys her work. She has ‘dabbled’ in a bit of everything with me as I’ve tried to give her a good base of experience, hacking happily alone and in company, enjoying some fun rides, show jumping up to 80cm, xc schooling up to 90cm, and winning her first few dressage and combined training outings. She’s also benefitted from going to riding club clinics in a group.

Due to my lack of time, Jasmine hasn’t got as much competition mileage under her belt as I would have liked her to by now, and I’m only going to have less time (and energy!) to get her out when I begin my veterinary training in September. Therefore, very sadly I need to find her a new place to enjoy her work and have lots of love and attention. I am looking for an experienced pony club/ competition home for Jazz. She is a lovely, safe little pony but is very much a competition stamp. She is forward going, responsive, and still a little green in some areas so requires a sympathetic, confident rider to really blossom. I think a lot of her so would love to see her thrive in the right home. I’d love to see her fit and out eventing as she has the right attitude and ability.

She is good to catch, shoe (was very nervous when she first arrived but my farrier has shown her there’s nothing to worry about), load (I regularly take her out alone), in traffic (really heavy traffic might worry her a little, but she gains confidence from her rider) rug, bath etc. her only flaw is she can grab a snack from the hedge leading out to the field so would potentially be too much for a tiny person to deal with unsupervised. She has very mild asthma, this is managed with soaking hay/haylage and ample turnout.

She’s a beautiful pony inside and out and I’d love her to be adored and enjoyed whilst I’m studying, but to also have the chance to cheer her on whilst she does it.

South west based home preferred.

Blueberry is a gorgeous young piebald cob mare with a lovely nature and a twinkle of curiosity in her eye. She’s the kind of pony who greets you at the gate and wants to know exactly what’s going on – a real people pony in the making!

She’s very good to catch, enjoys a pampering session (especially a good brush!), and is easy to handle in hand. Blueberry is also happy to have her feet picked out and stands nicely for fuss and attention.

This confident and curious 2-year-old piebald cob mare is looking for her perfect home through Blue Cross. Currently standing at 11.3hh, Blueberry may mature to around 13hh and has great potential as a future lead rein or child’s ridden pony. She's a true character who loves to be involved in everything going on around her!

Blueberry is well-handled for her age – she's good to catch, lead, and pick out her feet. She’s been great for the vet and farrier too. She’s happiest in a herd and won’t do well alone, so she’s looking for a home with equine companions and a handler experienced with young horses to continue her education.

She’s available as an unbacked project pony. With the right guidance, Blueberry is sure to blossom into a wonderful little partner.

Tango is a bright and affectionate young mare who is ready to find a special home where she can continue to grow and thrive. Full of personality and charm, this playful girl has a real zest for life and is happiest when she has other equine friends to share her days with.

Currently living with a group of mares, Tango is well-socialized and could also be introduced to geldings in the right setup. She lives out 24/7 currently, but is also happy to part stable with friends. Her ideal home would have other youngsters for her to bond and play with — she loves having fun and benefits from the interaction and stimulation.

As a typical baby, Tango is still learning the ropes and will need ongoing training and consistent, kind handling. She’s eager to please and has a lovely nature, making her a rewarding project for someone with time and experience to guide her as she matures.

Tango is looking for a companion home, not a ridden one — somewhere she can enjoy life as part of a herd, continue her development, and bring joy to her new humans.

If you think you can offer Tango the loving, knowledgeable home she deserves, we’d love to hear from you.

Favour is a sweet-natured young mare who is beginning to come out of her shell and enjoy human interaction. While she’s still building confidence, she’s making great progress and is starting to seek people out, especially for a good scratch—her favourite reward.

Favour leads well with a friend, and while she may pause to take in new surroundings, she responds calmly with gentle encouragement. Grooming is a new experience for her, but one she’s learning to enjoy, and she’s gradually accepting leg handling in preparation for farrier visits.

Though food can overwhelm her and she struggles with multiple people in her space, Favour is fine sharing hay and is steadily gaining confidence with consistent, kind handling. She has coped well with stabling alongside her companion and lives peacefully in a herd of mares.

Favour is a lovely, sensitive pony with huge potential. She will thrive in a home with experience, empathy, and a commitment to continuing her education at her pace.

We are happy to consider rehoming Fairfax and Favour as a pair of young ponies to be cared for until backing age. Alternatively they can be rehomed separately seeking new families.

Fairfax is a bright, inquisitive pony who is just beginning her journey of building trust with people. She’s naturally curious and enjoys investigating at her own pace, often approaching calmly in the field. While still cautious, she is responding well to regular, gentle handling and is starting to enjoy human interaction, especially when it includes a good scratch!

Due to her age she is still wearing a headcollar as part of her ongoing training, and she's currently learning the basics like being caught and having her feet picked up.

Fairfax copes well being stabled part-time with a companion and is currently living with another young mare. While she can become unsettled by food and finds multiple people in her space a little overwhelming, she’s learning to feel more comfortable with quiet, consistent routines.

  • FOR LEASE ONLY TO A 5*, KNOWLEDGEABLE HOME
  • Competed up to BE100 with double clears and competitive dressage scores
14.2, 17 year old, Connemara mare. Super talented, game & forward going pony tentatively offered for long term lease to the right home. We have owned this cracking little mare for the last 5 years.

She excels at ODE's and although has competed up to BE100 with double clears and competitive dressage scores, we feel that it would be fairer for her to step down the heights due to her age.

She is fit and well, has had her hocks injected in the past but has never been lame or in pain. The only reason for the lease is due to my sister starting University and has another horse to concentrate on and our mare is being wasted and loves an active life. 5* knowledgeable homes only, no novice riders or young children.

She is a competition pony and is forward going. Ideally we are looking for a small adult or competent teenager to enjoy her. She is excellent to hack, alone or in company. She lives on our farm so is used to heavy machinery. She does have limited grazing as she is quite greedy so stabling will be essential.

She is extremely well schooled and always produces a sub 30 test, would excel in a home that wanted to compete in dressage.

She also has melanomas and requires IV sedation to be clipped (had a full body clip last week). Please don’t enquire if either of these bother you. Serious enquiries only.

All potential homes will be thoroughly vetted. She is not for sale.

My gorgeous girl is only available as I start university in September and need to downsize on commitments, I got her straight from the Breeder as a yearling and still keep in contact with them so all her history is known.

She is a real sweetie and loves to be groomed, doesnt care about sprays etc which are definitely needed with her thick mane and tail.

She is a beautiful girl inside and out and my aim was to be out competing this year but have not had the time, hence me making this extremely tough decision to trust someone with her.

Up to date with everything.
