For the rider who values correct training over shortcuts — Tilly is a rare find.
Tilly is a beautifully bred, classically produced mare who has been trained and ridden by a leading classically trained dressage rider. She has been developed with time, patience and correctness, and it shows in everything she does. She understands her job, responds to subtle aids, and thrives with a rider who rides with kindness and clarity.
She is a genuinely talented all-rounder with the quality to specialise.
In dressage, Tilly has competed extremely successfully with Dressage Ireland up to Elementary level. She is almost never out of the top three placings. In 2024 she was:
• Second in her division at the Dressage Ireland National Championships
• Regional Champion (Young Rider division) 2024
She is expressive, uphill and eye-catching, consistently rewarded by judges for her way of going. She has the potential to progress to a very high level with an ambitious rider, yet remains beautifully rideable and competitive at Novice and Elementary for someone who simply wants to enjoy and excel.
Over fences, she has comfortably jumped unregistered tracks up to 1m 10 and 1.20cm at home ,with scope for more, yet is equally happy to pop an 80cm round. She is honest and forgiving, happy to help her rider with a stride when needed. She does everything in a rubber snaffle.
Tilly would suit:
• A knowledgeable amateur who appreciates correct training
• A competitive riding club rider
• A teenager wanting a quality all-rounder
• A kind mother/daughter share
• A rider looking for a talented partner to produce further
On the ground and in daily life, she is everything you hope for. Exceptionally kind, genuine and mannerly. Easy to shoe, clips without a head collar, loads well and is incredibly easy to catch — often walking straight up to you. She can be turned out alone or with others but prefers a group setting. She is straightforward to lunge (even in a head collar) and is unflappable in “spooky” situations thanks to extensive, thoughtful groundwork.
She hacks alone or in company on roads, forest tracks and the beach. She will happily nanny younger horses, loves a canter, but never becomes strong or silly. She remains light in the hand and rideable
This is a very sad sale of a much-loved mare, purely due to school exam commitments. She deserves a knowledgeable, kind home where her education and confidence will continue to be valued.
Serious enquiries only for a very special mare.
