DO YOU HAVE A HORSE OR PONY SUITABLE FOR THE RDA?

WANTED ON LONG TERM LOAN / PURCHASE

Ref #: 249896
  • If you think your equine has what it takes, please contact one of the groups below
  • If you think your equine has what it takes, please contact one of the groups below

One of the main issues that RDA groups face is finding an Equine to suit the needs of the participants in their group.

We are regularly contacted with offers of Equines that are ‘the ideal RDA horse or pony’ when actually what is ideal for one group may not be for the next. We are trying to move away from the stereotypical view that RDA Equines are elderly and somewhat static, our horses and ponies need to be fit, healthy and athletic to cope with the lifestyle in an RDA group.

They can range from smaller, forward going ponies to weight carrying cobs and can take part in a range of disciplines from Riding to Carriage Driving, Vaulting to Show Jumping and Endurance.

If you contact an RDA Group about your Equine please be prepared to fill in an Equine Initial Interest Form which will ask you many questions about your horses’ temperament, health history, experience and lifestyle. Many groups will prefer to have an equine on trial to make sure they are suitable for the job.

For long term loans and purchases they will also be required to have a Pre-Purchase Examination.

If you think your equine has what it takes, please contact one of the groups below.

Weatherby's well bred TB mare - Natural horsemanship, Proven Broodmare, Quiet Companion

FOR SALE OR LOAN

Ref #: 365555

  • Excellent proven broodmare - Produced an incredible Connemara x TB by Josie Jump in 2024

For sale or loan from a private genuinely loving home, a pretty and sweet natured 15.2-15.3hh 16 y.o very well bred Weatherby's National Hunt ex racehorse Thoroughbred mare who has just been a mum for the last 6 years of her life. She has not been ridden / worked in any way for 6 years.

I may consider loaning her if she was kept in West Sussex

Now needs a new experienced home either as a proven broodmare or could potentially be brought back into lighter work with the right person. She did race, just didn't like it so she is ROR eligible.

She apparently did do a bit of show jumping and cross country in-between racing and being a mum before her current home where she has just been a broodmare for the last few years.

A video of her jumping hurdles can be seen in this advert below the description.

She would also make a nice natural horsemanship project or do some fun horse agility with.

She has been an incredible broodmare producing outstanding wonderful natured and strongly built offspring. Has taken first time both naturally and via AI. Foals easily and is a great mum, just knows her job well.

Produced a truly oustanding Connemara cross TB foal by the very sought after Josie Jump in 2024. Huge potential to produce the same again.

This mare is a very good do-er with NO HEALTH ISSUES and good barefoot kept hooves (professionally equine podiatrist trimmed). Upto date with vaccines, teeth rasping and is on a worming programme with consistantly clear worm tests.

She is used to being with mares and geldings but is scared of being bullied so needs quieter companions.

She is good to handle and transport.

Will only go to a 5 star loving and caring home with proper experience and knowledge of ex racehorse thoroughbreds!

Only still available due to a continuous stream of people lying to me about what they can actually offer for this mare. Please do not enquire about her unless you can genuinely provide the right experienced loving and caring home with proper facilities to keep such a horse. This will be checked.

Scammers will not be tolerated!

Please message me with any questions

A fabulous opportunity for someone ambitious to get placed on a truly athletic and quality horse.

Albi is a wonderful horse in all ways. She is a forward ride with a big engine but can use leg and not get arms pulled out. She had a break to have some foals and has been back at it this year show jumping at 1.10cm and evented Cotswold cup and GO BE at 100, came 1st, 5th and 2nd in her last 3 events. Prior to foals had good record at Novice and 2* with top 3 placings.

She would love to get back out at novice or I can downgrade her to make her eligible for grassroots or u18s

Classy movements and jumping machine she will give her rider the ride of their life every xc round and always come home safe - that being said she is a powerful, rangey horse with springy jump and is not suitable for nervous or novice riders of any degree. This horse responds to leg and seat beautifully and isn’t for someone who only has kick, pull and steer in their repertoire.

Really easy to keep, deal with on the ground at home and at shows. Not your typical ‘don’t touch me’ mare very cuddly and loving and seasons never affect her performance

No soundness, steroids or health maintenance required, fit and ready to go. - She is not stiff or slow in her body in any way, she is flexible and in great nick and is no where near ready to slow down.

She is most suited to adult amateur wanting to do 1m+ rather than teaching teen the ropes at 80cm. She’s only been to 2* due to my personal circumstance, not her ability.

I bought this wonderful girl from top event rider over a decade ago, she will only go to the best of homes. Sad and very reluctant sale

If I miss your call please leave me text/whatsapp and I will get back to you

  • Would suit a home with other horses and access to a stable in bad weather
  • She loves polo mints !!

Connie is a very sweet mare now 26 years old and looking for a home as a light hacker or just as a companion Horse.

Connie is an ex racehorse although she retired age 7. She is a thoroughbred who has had a full life with lots of experience. She prefers to hack out with company.

She would suit a home where she has horsey friends and access to a stable in bad weather.

Connie is easy to handle and is very friendly towards horses and people.

She will do anything for a polo mint! She needs rugs and regular feeding. She does need some encouragement loading sometimes.

She has been out of work for the past three months due to my personal circumstances.

Up-to-date with worming teeth and feet.

She would be free to a good home. I am looking for someone experienced in caring for older horses who can give her the love and attention she deserves. I would need a loan agreement which outlines care expectations, regular updates and return condition. I would also do a Home check and require references to ensure she’s going to a knowledgeable and caring environment. Happy to chat if that’s easier.

Stunning gelding available on loan

Ref #: 392684
  • Arab Part Bred
  • Palomino
  • Gelding
  • 9 years
  • 15.2 hands

Available on long term loan to the right home. References will be required.

Quirky part bred Arab gelding. Owned since a foal. Very extensive medical investigations carried out and there’s nothing wrong with him he’s just exuberant and if your riding ability isn’t up to Sophie Seymour level you will likely end up on the deck repeatedly. For Sophie he was impeccably behaved and didn’t star in any social media posts other than being fast asleep in her stables.
He’s also a lovely ride for a freelance rider who rides him once a week for me currently. He’s popped round the 90cm and 1m x-country fences at Chard for him beautifully.

I’ve had a brilliant ride on him round a hunter trial at Pontispool. He’s taken me on hound exercise and autumn hunting as good as gold. I did a fun ride on him and other than decking me once near the start after a fence we had a fabulous 12miles and did lots of jumping. He’s also been to the beach and in the sea and was impeccably behaved.

I love him to bits but I have a young family and I need to put my son first. I don’t have the time or funds to get him out hunting regularly and I think that’s what he would enjoy. I also think he would be great at team chasing. He’s super brave and isn’t phased by ditches, steps or water.

He’s very sure footed, has always been bare foot as never required shoes. Hacks out alone or in company and is good in traffic. Lives on a working farm so is fine with cattle, machinery etc. Great to load and travel. Ties up at the box at a show no trouble at all, will happily stand with a haynet.

Needs daily turnout all year round. Will box walk if stabled for a prolonged period. He gets very attached to other horses and will stress if you take them away. He has a companion pony currently. He does settle on a big yard with horses coming in and out all the time but on a smaller yard he gets attached and seems to think every other horse is his companion.

He is very low mileage and I want him to go and have fun. He loves people and exploring the countryside and he’s got plenty of scope to go hedge hopping.

I would like him to stay local. Serious enquiries only please, this has been a very difficult decision.

Gingerbread is a handsome Arab X. This lovely boy has come a long way since his arrival and initial rescue background. Because of his stressful past, Gingerbread is seeking a quiet, consistent, and patient home where he can continue to settle and truly thrive as a cherished companion.

What Gingerbread needs most is a dedicated handler in a settled environment. While he is generally sweet, his background means he can still be unsure or overwhelmed in new or stressful circumstances. Day-to-day, he is making great strides in his handling; he has improved with leading and is learning to trust during grooming and feet picking, tasks which currently require extra time and patience. He is currently kept with one other docile gelding, soon to be introduced to a small gelding herd.

The ideal home for Gingerbread is a quiet, one-on-one setup with consistent gelding friends. If you are looking for a gentle, mature companion horse and have the patience and dedication to help him continue to gain confidence, Gingerbread promises to be a rewarding and loyal addition to your herd.

Clover is currently living out 24/7. He can live with mares or geldings, making him an excellent addition to any herd. Clover can find being stabled a little unsettling so would suit a home where he can live out as much as possible.

Clover benefits greatly from one-on-one human interaction and would do well with a patient, understanding handler in a peaceful field environment with other horses. And once a bond is formed, he’ll be a loving companion.

- Based at our Burford centre -

Melody is a sweet rising three-year-old filly who is ready to find her perfect companion-only home. She joined us in October 2025 after being transferred from a horse charity in Ireland.

Still young and very much learning, Melody needs patient, consistent training in all areas of handling—especially in leading and having her feet picked up. With steady guidance and clear routines, she will continue to grow in confidence and understanding.

Melody currently lives out 24/7 in a herd of mares and gets along well with others. She could also be introduced to geldings. She is an excellent grass eater and is a lovely, calm presence among other young horses.

If you’re looking for a kind, willing youngster to be a companion and enjoy gentle, ongoing groundwork with, Melody may be the perfect match. She’s ready for her next chapter with someone who can offer her the time, consistency, and supportive home she deserves.

Dream is a lovely 7-year-old Thoroughbred mare who came into our care in October 2025 as a transfer from an Irish horse charity. Dream is an ex-racer with a gentle heart, she is now looking for a calm, companion-only home where she can enjoy a peaceful, stress-free life.

Dream is a very sweet mare with a soft nature, but she does have some anxious tendencies. She will thrive best in a quiet environment with consistent, reassuring handling. She is good to catch and enjoys being groomed, happily bonding with those who spend time with her.

In new environments, Dream can be strong to lead, simply due to uncertainty. However, once she has settled and feels secure, she leads well and shows her true, steady temperament.

Dream is best suited to living out and currently lives happily in a herd of mares. With appropriate introductions, she could also be turned out with geldings.

- Based at a foster yard in Hampshire -

Mae is a very sweet natured mare, recently returned to our care due to a change in circumstances, now ready to find her forever home as a non-ridden companion.

This lovely girl has had a tough start in life but remains kind, gentle, and eager for one-to-one affection and care. She thrives in a calm, loving environment and would be a wonderful addition to someone looking for a true companion.

As a standardbred breed, Mae is an excellent at taking additional grass! Meaning she doesn't need restrictive management in any form. A great addition to other large horses of similar management.

She is happy living out 24/7 or being part-stabled, and she settles well in the company of both mares and geldings. Mae enjoys the simple things; companionship, routine, and kindness.

If you can offer Mae a peaceful, caring home where she’ll be cherished for who she is, please get in touch. She deserves a second chance and a loving place to call home.

Roe is a handsome, gentle hunter-type gelding who is searching for his loving forever companion home. He is wonderfully mannered and good to handle in every way—easy to catch, lead, groom and pick out feet, and he is also a star for both the vet and farrier.

He is currently living out 24/7 but is equally happy with a routine that includes some stabling. Roe is overweight at the moment and is following a diet plan to help him safely slim down, so he will need a home committed to restricted grazing and ongoing weight management. He would also really enjoy and benefit from in-hand walks to keep him active.

Roe currently lives contentedly with geldings and has been living next door to mares. With sensible introductions, he could also join a mixed herd if needed.

If you’re looking for a kind, steady and affectionate companion who will thrive with attention and a structured routine, Roe could be the perfect addition to your herd.

A very honest advert.

I am ashamed to admit that I do not have the time, money or grass (!) that Arthur needs and I’m seeing if the perfect person is out there for him.

I have had him from a two year old (over from Ireland) and backed him myself. He was always the reliable old head on young shoulders. I used to lead an unbacked 3 year old mare from him as a freshly backed 4 year old.

However over the last year he’s been dealt a rough hand physically and I have recently had a baby, culminating in him having a lot of time off and me having no time to properly give him any attention. He’s gone back in his shell and lost the bond we had which I’m so sad about. He is an introvert and a sensitive soul despite his size and could really do with some 1-to-1. I have two other horses and really struggle to do more than turn in and out with him.

He is currently recovering from a tendon injury, he is field sound but could do with more time off / out I think before being brought back into work. All other veterinary history will be disclosed to any potential homes.

Come spring I’m sure he would be straightforward to bring back into work and hopefully be able to enjoy life ambling around the country side. He is not built for speed really so someone who likes a slower pace of life would be great.

I realise this is the worst time of year to find homes but I physically don’t have enough grass or money for hay to keep him myself. Really hoping he can find his miracle person.

Has travelled in a 3.5ton, trailer and bigger Lorrie’s without a problem.
