Frank is tempting more than any other to keep and produce. He has been to opening meet and provided a lovely and mannerly day and jumped a few timbers, he’s been cross country schooling and never said no and answered every question asked.

On the flat he’s been schooled a handful of times, but reflects a horse that has been worked on for years. He hacks alone and in company and is not spooky in the slightest will lead, stay cool in open space and hack alone with no stress.

He loads, clips, farrier, catch, leads politely. He is an exceptional stamp of traditional cob and received a comment of “that’s a horse of the year show cob” and I don’t doubt it.

Open to any vet, excellent trial facilities, transport can be arranged.

DO YOU HAVE A HORSE OR PONY SUITABLE FOR THE RDA?

WANTED ON LONG TERM LOAN / PURCHASE

Ref #: 249896
  • If you think your equine has what it takes, please contact one of the groups below
  • If you think your equine has what it takes, please contact one of the groups below

One of the main issues that RDA groups face is finding an Equine to suit the needs of the participants in their group.

We are regularly contacted with offers of Equines that are ‘the ideal RDA horse or pony’ when actually what is ideal for one group may not be for the next. We are trying to move away from the stereotypical view that RDA Equines are elderly and somewhat static, our horses and ponies need to be fit, healthy and athletic to cope with the lifestyle in an RDA group.

They can range from smaller, forward going ponies to weight carrying cobs and can take part in a range of disciplines from Riding to Carriage Driving, Vaulting to Show Jumping and Endurance.

If you contact an RDA Group about your Equine please be prepared to fill in an Equine Initial Interest Form which will ask you many questions about your horses’ temperament, health history, experience and lifestyle. Many groups will prefer to have an equine on trial to make sure they are suitable for the job.

For long term loans and purchases they will also be required to have a Pre-Purchase Examination.

If you think your equine has what it takes, please contact one of the groups below.

Storm – The Ultimate Child’s Pony & Family Treasure (13hh, Rising 6) ??

Storm is one in a million — a kind, patient, and trustworthy little mare who has safely taught children aged 4 to 10 to ride. She’s been nothing short of amazing with them, giving confidence to complete beginners and helping them learn the ropes in the kindest way possible.

She’s a little green only because she’s mainly been used for novice riders, but when ridden by someone with more experience, she steps up beautifully and shows real potential. Storm is honest, eager to please, and loves to be around people — the kind you trust without hesitation.

13hh | Rising 6 | Mare

Excellent with children – patient, forgiving, and gentle
Hacks alone or in company
Loads and travels easily
Good to catch, shoe, and handle
Pops a small jump and enjoys her work

Plenty of lovely footage available of her teaching young children — she truly is worth her weight in gold for the confidence and joy she gives them.

Storm would suit a family, teen, or small adult looking for a safe, genuine pony to bring on and love.

A rare find — safe, talented, and full of heart. She deserves only the very best home.

  • Previous Riding School & RDA pony
Experienced all round family pony that can do a number of jobs from lead rein and first ridden through to second pony. She’s sensible but forward and a fun ride. Currently ridden by my 5yr old off the lead rein including in lots of open spaces including XC (see videos) and my 4yr old on and off the lead rein. Whilst she’s small she’s also very substantial and so I have also ridden her (lightweight 5’2).

Suitable for PC, hacking, games, showjumping, showing, eventing, working hunter (1st, 2nd and Reserve Champion last time out). She will turn her hoof to most things!

Used in a riding school for years including RDA. The riding school closed down which is the only reason why she was sold.

Easy person to look after - currently out 24/7 with or without company. Barefoot. Up to date with teeth, vaccinations, worm counts and just fed a balancer once a day. I’ll start to give her some hay outside shortly.

Comes with tack and rugs.

PANDA
Available with 28 day trial

13.1hh 10yo piebald cob mare.
Good conformation with smooth flowing paces.

Sweet natured no malice. Good to bath, load, travel, handle, farrier and vet. Can sometimes require a treat to be caught.
Loves attention and starting to soften and thoroughly enjoy cuddle time.

Ridden by all the kids, nervous and novice riders.
Snaffle mouthed. Doesn't get strong or silly. Reliable sort.
Hacks out alone or in company in front or behind. Good in heavy traffic never have to worry about little ones on board.
Forward but sensible ride, not whizzy just active paced. 1.5 type ride.

Pops a small jump honestly with kiddies. Will take the rider into the jump genuinely, all they need to do is steer. Very bold and willing little lady. Always comes home with a ribbon.
SJ & XC. Jumped 2'6ft with more capable jockeys.

Basic schooling but not yet been advanced as produced into a kids pony.

Has been out in group rides of 13 happy to be placed anywhere.
Been out competing SJ upto 50cm with first time jockeys and was absolutely brilliant. Came home with lots of 1sts!
Used for lessons for a variety of riders looking after them all.
Pleasure rides, never been spooky or silly away from home.
Beach she was brilliant swimming and cantering up and down with novice and nervous teens and kids.
XC schooling looked after nervous or novice jockeys and kept them safe. SJ schooling tried her little heart out popping everything.
Has also been hound exercise with 7yo child who has never hunted & she was amazing looking after him - as a mum I was able to breath (until he decided it was the best thing in the whole world and panda was awesome so he could go zooming off, weaving between horses, off chatting to people, jumping ditches & had no fear then I got a little nervous! But his massive rise in confidence was purely down to Pandas perfect behaviour).

Lovely little alrounder for someone to enjoy. Suit a child that is ready to go and have some fun independently and needs a pony to look after them.

13hh traditional piebald traditional cob mare 10yrs

Fun and forward going little cob who was done a bit of everything. As wide as she is tall so takes up the leg well!

Bella is a lovely girl who thrives on having a job to do. She is currently owned by an older lady who bought her as a happy hack and while she is very good when in regular work she doesn’t suit the part time life style that her owner requires, she would rather be in a routine and worked than left in the field and ridden once a week. She is a well schooled, forward thinking ride and definitely not a kick along slow cob! She is nicely responsive and also will ride off your voice, believed to have previously driven but we haven’t tried this. Good breaks in open spaces but game for a good canter. Bella will jump round a small course, she’s never going to be a world beating show jumper but gives it a go. She will also happily pop a log out hacking. Bella loves her hacking and is excellent in traffic , alone and in company and will go first or last.

She’s easy in and out the stable, sociable in the field and happy to live in or out. Good to load, catch, shoe, clip etc.

Comes with some tack.

Seen at livery.

Zeus has been out and about and done a bit of everything. We have been active members of the pony club, including rallies and Camp.He has competed in local Dressage /Show Jumping Competitions. Done some XC, beach rides and on previous yard hacked out alone to Herrington park. Currently hacks round the farm including fields alone or company.

Dottie

Sad sale of the beautiful dot on behalf of client due to riders legs being too long! She has been hoof perfect with every rider we’ve put on her. From novice adults out hacking to xc with confident teen. She will turn her hoof and adapt to the rider. Leaving everyone with a smile.

Dottie loves to cruise around the countryside she is regularly hacked out by myself bumbling around. Excellent in traffic. Equally as happy to go in a group. She has gone in a group with teenagers filming tik toks, jumping things they probably shouldn’t be and always bring them home safe. Happy to go front, back or middle. Excellent brakes.

She has 3 lovely paces in the school and definently has the potential to show. Has been ridden bareback. Not phased by fillers. Happy to pop a cross or jump a bigger fence if kicked on.

Currently stabled at night but happy to live out. A real genuine, easy cob that lives on fresh air. She is barefoot with solid feet.

5 star home only.

Lily is a lovely ten year old 14hh cob mare.

Good points:

Brilliant to hack, will go in front or behind, will also lead off another horse. Great in traffic, doesn’t bat an eyelid at big traffic, Lorries, bicycles, motorbikes, bicycles etc, even helicopters flying overhead in a lesson did not phase her! She has hacked through the busy village of Appledore numerous times and takes it all in her stride. If she does have rare little spook at eg a barking dog or a bird flying out of a hedge she’ll just jump on the spot and won’t go anywhere.

Lily goes well in the school and adapts to different levels of rider. My tiny eight year old goddaughter did her first jump on Lily off the lead rein, and my 12-year old goddaughter had her first canter on her. She can also step it up for someone more confident who knows how to ask for more. She is currently mainly ridden by two eleven year olds and a sixteen year old who all absolutely dote on her.

Lily LOVES jumping and has jumped up to 90cm at home with a local teen rider. Out and about she goes best avoiding the warm up area, which she can find a bit overwhelming, and warming up in the car park then going straight into the ring. She’s getting more confident on her outings all the time and recently won a poles competition at a local show!

Lily has done some showing this summer which she has enjoyed and done well at. She came second in a local dressage competition and has done both intro and prelim away from home, with very positive comments from the judges.

She travels brilliantly and has gone out to several arena hires and clinics where she has behaved really well. Coaches always comment that she is a cracking pony with lots of potential. Her first owner was a dressage rider and has set Lily up to carry herself beautifully – she can go very nicely indeed when asked. She has also been out to XC schooling which she really enjoyed. I imagine she would absolutely love hunting.

Lily is brilliant to clip and for the vet and farrier. She has great feet and is barefoot all round. She will come with her scoot boots which she wears on her fronts for road hacking.

With us Lily has been turned out with another mare or sometimes individually. I imagine she would be fine in a mixed herd as she has geldings just across the fence and doesn’t seem bothered by them in the slightest. She is happy being on her own for a bit – if she has food she really isn’t bothered about what else is going on! She’s not the type to fret if the last to be turned out or brought in, or if her companion is taken out for a ride. She also travels happily on her own.

Not-so-good points:

Lily can be rude on the ground and needs a firm handler. This can occasionally include small rears if she thinks she can get away with it. I think this is mainly hangry-ness as she has been on a very strict diet the past year to get her weight down (she came to us very overweight). When she’s allowed to eat more, she’s generally much nicer to handle. She is also much better in a consistent routine, however due to my focus being on my other horses she has recently lacked the consistency she needs and this has had a detrimental effect on her behaviour. Ideally Lily needs to be ridden and handled regularly in a good routine with clear boundaries in place, and then she can become quite angelic and lamb-like! For this reason although children love riding her, she is looking for a home where there is a confident, experienced adult around to help with the handling, especially at first while she is settling in. We do have her in a Monty Roberts headcollar which helps, and she is a clever girl who responds well to clicker training and groundwork. For someone willing to put the time in she is a very rewarding horse. Our intelligent horsemanship trainer has always commented on how fun Lily is to work with.

Hacking alone, Lily can be nappy at the start of the ride, when ridden by a less confident rider. She will not do anything worse than planting and the odd tiny bunny hop, but it can be frustrating. When she came to us she had not hacked out much alone and we overcame her worries with consistency and gradually increasing her comfort zone, but it’s possible she would try this on again with a new rider in a new home, until she feels settled. With her current confident teenage rider she is now happily hacking out alone, even to the beach!

In company (or with a human on foot) Lily is an angel to hack and has taken many beginners for their first ride both on and off the lead rein, from adults to tiny tots. She has a lovely dainty trot which is ideal for kids learning their first rising trot. She also longlines beautifully, and will follow a human anywhere, if you don’t have another horse to hack out with, but have someone to go with you a few times on foot until you’ve formed your ridden bond! She is also sensible in open spaces as she’s used to going out on Northam Burrows, although she does love a good blast.

Lily has a few minor health issues common in cobs, such as mild sweetitch (we manage this with use of a sweetitch rug and fly mask for most of the year, plus vitamin B and Black Salt added to her feed).

She has the beginnings of mild CPL in her legs as many cobs do – this is managed with diet and exercise and keeping her legs clean and clipped and does not affect her.

Lily needs to be kept on a strict diet as she is an incredibly good doer. We have managed this by keeping her muzzled when out on grass during the day, for most of the year, and in at night on soaked hay. Sometimes we have taken her off grass for a spell such as when the spring or autumn grass is coming through, mainly as a precaution. We keep her fit by working her 6-7 days a week, with a mix of schooling, jumping, hacking and hill work. She is currently looking fantastic and I would love her to go to a home who would like to continue this, who understand ponies at risk of laminitis (she’s never officially had it but is most definitely a contender) and would like to keep her in good shape!

Lily is a very cute and much loved pony who is absolutely adored by her sharers but unfortunately at 5’9 though she does carry me fine and takes the leg up brilliantly, I just feel a bit too tall on her and feel happier on my bigger horses. Due to needing to cut down on numbers she needs to find a new home where she can receive all the love and attention she deserves. She will be such a fun allrounder for a teen (or confident child) rider or small adult, or could be a great first pony for a child with a more experienced adult to help on the ground. She has built the confidence of our young riders massively during the time we have had her.

Lily will be ready to leave us at the start of November, as I want her sharers to have time to say their goodbyes to her, but I am putting the feelers out now to see if we can find Lily her perfect home. I would be thrilled if she could stay local to us and her new owners could stay in touch.

Open to offers – home more important than price.

RUBY

Beautiful 2020 Irish black cob standing at 14.3hh, offering a super safe, fun and easy ride. Ruby is snaffle mouthed, works well in all three paces, she will work in and produce a lovely test but really happy to be ridden off the buckle, she is safe, straightforward and has comfortable paces. She takes the leg up a lot, and is a substantial type, yet remains athletic through her paces and lots of scope jumping.

Ruby makes a nice shape over a fence, she is careful and has a brilliant pop in her, she’s cross country schooled, and is unbothered by coloured fillers and rustic fences, she will jump from a trot for a more nervous rider and is happy to canter and pop a course for a braver rider. She will take you to a fence.

Ruby is super in open spaces, she will canter first or last, she is absolutely fantastic in the heaviest of traffic, will give you complete confidence out on the roads and she’s totally unbothered. She will walk out on the buckle.

A lovely hack, allrounder, mother daughter share, she has also hunted. A lovely kind little mare in the yard, a genuine type who wants to please and get it right.

The children tack her up and pick her hooves out and always groom her for hours.
