Whiskey Galore , ( Hugo) or Huggy as he is affectionately known has been in the same home since he was a yearling, he was professionally backed and ridden away, before my 14 yr daughter took up the ride as he just didn’t grow big enough for his owner.
Since Hugo has been with us we have carried on producing him and taken him out to plenty of arena hires, unaffiliated showjumping, WHP classes at local shows and taken him hunting with the Chiddingfold Leconfield and Cowdray Hunt.
Hugo is by the class 1 Connemara stallion Castle Knight out of the thoroughbred mare Towy Valley and his grandsire was no less than the great American sprinter Bertolini , so there are some great bloodlines there, bringing the perfect combination of blood , and athleticism from the tb with the calm and correctness of the Connemara.
Hugo is well schooled on the flat, with three balanced big paces, he has a big bold scopey jump and has proved brave over fillers both indoors and out, he was 2nd in his first WHP class , popping round the rustic fences with no drama.
Hugo was a dream out hunting for my daughter, not silly or strong and ridden in just a snaffle, and stood quietly at the meet, this pony has so much potential and I’ve no doubt he will excel at any discipline, I personally would love to see him out eventing as I feel he has all the attributes to go to the top, he hacks out alone and in company ( he can be a bit looky on his own due to his age)
Hugo is good to shoe , and trim, we haven’t had to fully clip him yet but I can’t imagine he will be bothered , good to catch ( he is straight over for a cuddle) he loads and travels on both a trailer and a lorry ( sometimes needs a couple of attempts to get straight) , he is fit and sound and ready to go and have fun this summer , he has a couple of little sarcoids which don’t bother him, but that’s it , he is open to vettings etc, and a five star home is really important to his owner.
We would like to see Hugo go to an experienced home to carry on his education and fulfill his potential, he is not suitable for a novice rider as he is still young and learning his trade.
