DO YOU HAVE A HORSE OR PONY SUITABLE FOR THE RDA?

WANTED ON LONG TERM LOAN / PURCHASE

Ref #: 249896
  • If you think your equine has what it takes, please contact one of the groups below
  • If you think your equine has what it takes, please contact one of the groups below

One of the main issues that RDA groups face is finding an Equine to suit the needs of the participants in their group.

We are regularly contacted with offers of Equines that are ‘the ideal RDA horse or pony’ when actually what is ideal for one group may not be for the next. We are trying to move away from the stereotypical view that RDA Equines are elderly and somewhat static, our horses and ponies need to be fit, healthy and athletic to cope with the lifestyle in an RDA group.

They can range from smaller, forward going ponies to weight carrying cobs and can take part in a range of disciplines from Riding to Carriage Driving, Vaulting to Show Jumping and Endurance.

If you contact an RDA Group about your Equine please be prepared to fill in an Equine Initial Interest Form which will ask you many questions about your horses’ temperament, health history, experience and lifestyle. Many groups will prefer to have an equine on trial to make sure they are suitable for the job.

For long term loans and purchases they will also be required to have a Pre-Purchase Examination.

If you think your equine has what it takes, please contact one of the groups below.

For Sale – Kind, Experienced Schoolmaster 15.3hh Thoroughbred Gelding (ROR)

Due to a change in career and lack of time, we are sadly offering our beloved Ben for sale. With my daughter now focusing on competitive riding, I need to devote what time I have to supporting her journey—making this a very difficult and heartfelt decision for our whole family.

Ben is a 15-year-old, 15.3hh TB gelding (ROR eligible) with a gentle nature and a willing heart. He has been a joy to own—kind, safe, and full of personality. Vaccinations, wormed and dental all up to date.

Disciplines: Primarily done flatwork and hacking with us, but Ben is a quick learner and has done show jumping and XC in his previous home. More videos available.
Temperament: Excellent manners both in the field and on the ground. He’s a pleasure to handle and has been a trusted partner in and out of the saddle.
Hacking: Confident to hack both alone and in company.
Routine: Lives out 24/7 currently, with the occasional stabling during the day when it's hot. He must have company both in the field and stable—as is typical of ex-racers, he does not enjoy being alone. He has a strong bond with his current 12.2hh stable mate.
Extras: fully Shod, Comes with full tack and a full wardrobe of rugs.
Home Requirements: Needs a knowledgeable, kind home specifically having owned a TB previously and where his need for companionship is respected. He must be first out and last in, but he is otherwise low maintenance and adaptable as long as he has friends nearby.

Located Northamptonshire

Please—no time wasters. This is a much-loved family horse and his next home must be the right one. Viewings welcome to the right people. Homes will be vetted and references may be required.

'Flying Solo' 15h (lhc) 15 year old gelding

Solo is a very quality horse, with a super nature very kind and willing. Solo is multitalented competing in British Dressage, British Riding Clubs (East Dorset Riding Club), combined training and jumping (workers and SJ). Would go XC but this is not for me! Some 2024 results;
CHAPS UK restricted final winner, champion points accumulator, winner and res champion starter stakes, res supreme bucks spectacular, champion sport horse in hand and ridden at the New forest show. Qualified 2023,2024 for the BD red gorilla combine training championships, attended the BRC intermediate / dressage to music finals and finished overall 2nd in the team quest winter league. Currently standing 2nd on the My quest leaderboard.

Solo gives a lovely ride, with three beautiful rhythmical balanced paces, with good lateral work, superb jumper has taught me so much very scopey capable of bigger tracks but I'm only comfortable at 80cm. Solo is not suitable for a complete novice or first time buyers but would suit a competent amateur/ teenager or a fun allrounder on. Solo hacks alone or in company goes first or last however wouldn't be suitable for road hacking as he isn't keen on bigger vehicles but is fine with cars, vans, dogs etc. Snaffle mouthed, never strong or silly.

Shod all round up to date with chiropractor, dentist vaccinations, farrier, does need to stay on a gut balancer.

Lives in at night and out during the day, lovely on the ground and a real pleasure to have around. Currently out competing so is fit and ready to go and give a new family lots of wonderful memories.

Call me Dylan

17.2 15yo  ROR gelding
Dylan is a athletic super moving gentle giant who is looking for his new partner in life.

He's had a good all round education.
He was bred and owned by a racing syndicate till 2023 where it was clear that wasn't the life for him.

He then turned his hoof to showing as an ROR where he won at Herts county and came 3rd at Kent county show

He then progressed into eventing where he completed 2 seasons up to BE100 and also some BS till 2023 when he was purchased by current owner.

Dylan moved to me in 2024 on full livery where he had been kept ticking over with light schooling and some hacking. He's also completed horse agility which he thoroughly enjoyed!

He has a beautiful natural way of going with a floaty trot and rocking horse canter. He knows all the party tricks up to advanced medium with changes.

Only for sale due to current owners personal circumstances meaning not enough time that this precious boy requires.

We believe he will be best suited to a confident able jockey who would like to compete at grassroots. Although he is a big horse he is super responsive and no strength is needed.

He does have scarirng on his hinds, pictures can be sent over however this has never affected him, he also has a mild shiver in his right hind which is only seen when you initially go to pick up his hind, again this is something that has never progressed or been an issue.

Please note he is not a novice ride as he is a forwards thinking horse and requires a confident jockey.

Good to do in every way clip, shoe, travel ect

Based IP19 0RR with excellent trial facilities

Sale is very sad, due to move I can’t take him with me otherwise I would not part with him.

Forever home only please. An absolute saint with manners to die for. Great in all traffic. Hacks out alone or in company. Up and down fells and in open fields. He is forward but sensible.

Loads and travels like a dream. Has just been doing low level work the last two years due to lack of time after my business grew. We have competed in DR and showing. He loves to jump (I think I’m rubbish at it so don’t do much) we’ve done Somerford Camp and Richmond XC and fun rides, even a GB Endurance ride!

He would be brilliant in the ex-race horse veterans classes now. In his previous home he was evented and hunted after coming out of racing by a professional rider. You can even ride and lead on him, he really is a star. I’ve hacked him out in just a head collar when I fancy it. Isn’t that fussed about cuddles and kisses. Currently lives out. Has been stabled with me at times too. Up to date with teeth and vaccs. Will have to go with his full wardrobe.

If you have also perhaps been there and done it but now looking for a no-fuss horse and can see beyond his age and breed on paper then please send me a message.

Beau is a 16.3 17 year old TB dark bay mare. Has not been ridden in around 3 years due to being in foal, but no reason she cannot come back into work, has previously evented to BE100, been in a hacking home and general riding club, no reason she couldn't do it again. For sale from the field as a project to bring back into work. £1,500.

Please message on WhatsApp if you would like any further information, I have bad signal so leave a message and I will get back to you.

Albert (Passport name is Trigger)

Albert is an absolutely stunning 15.1hh palomino Welsh section D X Irish cob stallion. 19 years young (as he still acts like he’s 8yrs), never sick or sorry. He is the kindest, quietest and most impeccably mannered horse, no stallion-like behaviour at all, never showing any traits amongst mares and geldings - we ride out with both and he never bats an eyelid. He has never covered a mare with me, and I have owned him for 7 years.

He is good to clip, shoe (he is barefoot now, he used to have driving shoes), load and catch and is up to date with all vaccinations.

He can turn his hoof to anything, showing, dressage, hacking, cross country, showjumping, you name it, he comes home with ribbons every time.

He excels in carriage driving, from pleasure drives to commercial work, having done many weddings, proms and birthdays. Nothing fazes him, from helicopters landing to farm machinery, lorries, and motorbikes, He is 100% bombproof in all ways. He is voice command/click very easy to ride and drive. You can put anyone on him from your grandma to your grandchild and he will look after them.

He has 4 flashy paces, a real head turner at shows.

This is a very hard and reluctant sale due to me being in further education, he is wasted and not getting the attention he deserves.

This price includes all driving gear and the red and black wagonette cart, as shown in video.

no time wasters please. Message Laura.
