Approx 12hh Registered Welsh Section A gelding, 16 years old. Heartbreaking sale of my daughter’s best friend.
Casper has been a brilliant first pony for my daughter. He’s taken her from a very timid, lead rein jockey to cantering confidently around open fields and competing at a variety of local events. He has given her all her first riding experiences off the yard - clinics, Working Hunter, SJ, mini HT and XC and a very memorable ride with friends around Somerford Park farm ride, jumping everything their in path.
Calm and sensible when out and about, he doesn’t get lit up in open spaces or on group rides. Happy in busy practice rings and falls asleep ringside between classes - he won’t stand alone on the trailer, but this has never affected us as he’s so easy at a show.
He’s been ridden bareback, vaulted on, dressed in tinsel, bells, flowers (and as a lion in his previous home!) and hasn’t batted an eyelid. Never bucked, reared, bolted. If you stop kicking, he will come back in two strides; which has given my daughter so much confidence - we just now need a bigger pony with more gears as she has grown so much, and is ready to take on new challenges.
He has a lovely way of going with three smooth, balanced paces - and can really strut his stuff with longer legs on board! Happy on the lead with little jockeys teaching up-downs and first canters on the lunge, but equally would produce a lovely little dressage test with a more established jockey. Has jumped up to 70cm at home and xc schooling - where he truly excels - and has competed at 30/40/50 cm on and off lead - decorating both my daughters’ bedroom walls with rosettes. Will back off show jumps with fillers and takes some encouraging with new fences, so please don’t enquire if you are looking for a pony to carry a child around a course - that isn’t who he is. He loves XC fences and is a saint with steps, ditches and water. He will follow or lead just the same and stand watching others patiently. XC is my daughters favourite discipline, due entirely to the feeling Casper has given her.
He is easy to do and used to children, non-riders, dogs, poultry and sheep. He is my go-to pony when we have friends to visit who don’t ride, and has been used routinely for teaching riding lessons.
Sweet-natured, loves fuss, grooming and kisses and has no stable vices. Very much the Welsh pony, he will tow to grass / haynet / feed bins when leading (show me a pony that doesn’t!) but has been independently handled, tacked up, loaded etc by my daughter - he’s just taught her to be on the ball!
Never sick or sorry and very low maintenance. Up to date with vaccinations, dentist, farrier and physio (routine). I’ve regularly updated his previous owner on our adventures and have had contact with the previous home too, so most history known. Super feet, always been barefoot and never had health issues.
He has been the centre of our happiest moments in 2024 and 2025 - we have hundreds of photos and videos of all we have done. He is fit and ready to help another young jockey learn the ropes and go on adventures together. We are looking for a kind, loving and knowledgeable family home, and will not be rushing the sale as we adore him. He will come with some tack and full wardrobe. Newly fitted Black Country saddle available by separate negotiation.
