Oscar is a fantastic 13.2hh Pony club allrounder for a confident rider. An energetic 2nd pony who is always up for the next adventure. He is full of fun and enthusiasm but is completely safe and bombproof. 10 years old
He has lovely paces and is obedient. He is highly responsive to very subtle cues. But he is not sharp or reactive. In fact the challenge is getting him in front of your leg in the first place. This is not hard but you did need to make sure he is in front of the leg as he will ignore you if he can and teach you to nag. He won affiliated dressage comps at prelim level with scores over 70% with previous owner. He can extend and collect, he can do flying changes.
He loves to jump and has competed in both Pony Club and Show jumping competitions up to 85cm. He is quick and nimble, knows his job and needs little encouragement. Before competitions he is relaxed and calm, doesn’t hot up or get silly. He is a keen and careful jumper, speeds up and slows down as needed. He jumps off any angle and any stride. He is not bothered by fillers, water trays, skinnies. He rarely stops or runs out. He can turn tightly and usually jumps clear so he is competitive. His competitive level is anything up to 80/85. He is sensible enough to take a child round x poles and he can step up to 85 and jump a confident clear over a full up track. In terms of single fences, he can jump over a metre. At shows he will doze between classes and then perk up when in the ring or just as easily, potter around a course.
XC / Hunter Trials
Oscar loves hunter trials and XC he is bold and brave, flies through water, ditches, owl holes, never runs out of energy and has jumped every fence imaginable on the first time of asking. Although he is bold he doesn’t get strong and is a straight-forward ride giving confidence to his rider. He is happy to wait patiently, for example during team training, then ride away from others to do his job. His previous owner, (not the pony club instructors daughter) told us that he had the odd occasion out training where he might get behind the leg and buck out of excitement. In this case, her daughter learnt to push him forward and ride positively to overcome it, however we have not had that experience of him.
Oscar has regularly attended rallies including XC rallies and pony club camps. He is very well behaved, gets on with other ponies, happy to wait his turn and can be completely trusted in big open spaces. His previous owner needed a confidence giver taking her from 7-9 years old and the owner before was the pony club instructors daughter who had enormous successes on him including working at medium level dressage, therefore he has established changes, lateral work and extensions.
Oscar is a brilliant hack. My daughter can hack him on her own or in a group, he goes first, last or solo and is great all sorts of traffic and around large farm machinery. He is often asked to lead older bigger horses past anything scary! He will go away from a group without napping and even when other horses have bolted he has not followed. As a mum I have total confidence in him. My daughter rides him a bareback in a headcollar and I have used him to take out complete novice riders when accompanying me on my horse.
He is excellent to load (self-loads!), trim (has had shoes but usually kept unshod), clip and catch (he helps me get my other horses in!). He has such a lovable cheeky character, highly inquisitive and affectionate and has never so much as put his ears back at anyone. My five-year-old daughter regularly grooms him, or spends time with him and her own pony when they are out loose in the field
He is only up for sale because my daughter has been diagnosed with type-one diabetes alongside lyme disease and needs to take some time out to focus on her health and Oscar is too good to sit around and wait. He is up to date with his injections and is fit and ready to go to another enthusiastic rider who wants to go straight out and have some fun.
